  1. If you're private rent is paid for by benefits, yes. Same principal still applies, why should they get a over sized house for nothing? We have a system to help people out which is fair enough but only it should only to fulfill peoples needs. No way anyone will convince me that letting people have bigger houses than they need is a good thing. If you want a bigger house, pay for it!

So if someone who has worked hard and paid national insurance & income tax all their lives is unfortunately made redundant you think they should be evicted because they have an extra bedroom ?

  4. No, but nor did I say that. I said there should be a introductory period for such circumstances. If they've worked all their lives, where is their savings or pension too? What about life insurance for loss of work etc? People shouldn't expect to be kept to a standard beyond what they need either. Is having a single person living in a four bedroom house really that acceptable when young families don't have a home to go to or have to squeeze into a one bedroom flat? There is a clear shortage of suitable homes in the country yet we seem happy to let people sit in a house not of adequate size or proportion. I think bedroom tax is great but needs tweaking.

You do realise what national insurance is for don't you ? I'll give you a clue it's in the name <ok>

    #365
  6. So you think we should be paying over the odds for people to live in over sized houses then, gotcha <ok>

In fact one of the parties (or was it one of the paper editorials) did address this comparison. They felt that fiddling benefits (for say £60000) is a bigger crime than not paying (say £60 millions) right amount of taxes and therefore should carry a much heavier punishment. I cannot remember what the argument was but I am sure someone here will enlighten us.

In Ireland same thing, really weathy type owed a lot of tax, he paid it back and no problem. A year previously, a guy who owned a restaurant didn't pay tax on the garlic he was importing for for several years, he paid the tax back, he still got 6 years porridge.

Didn't both of those die in exceptionally dodgy circumstances?

Ruined then they died. More to this than meets the eye. Obviously for those types to be brought before a court they need to have pissed off their peers and lost their support, same was as you'll only see a US senator arrested if he has no allies in the senate, otherwise he\she's good to go

There is evidence that Robert Maxwell is dead, not of Lord Lucan. Some people said he is in Australia living under assumed
    name.<ok>

I reckon he's dead. Living in Australia under an assumed name is worth than death <laugh>

I'd rather live in abject poverty than live with that bunch of racist convicts

For an Irish guy living in Finland posting on an English football forum I am VERY xenophobic. <laugh>

The convicts bit was tongue in cheek given said English forum, it was an English prison after all.

The racist bit tho.. If you think Australia is not institutionally racist, go read about Aborigines and how they have been treated by the state for the last 50 years.

I was just playing on the fact you'd gone about generalising an entire country of people by using the term racist, I didn't have any deeper point to make :p

Though it's a great place to visit if you get the chance!

Cos I'm not Muslim or Aborigine<whistle>

I do agree, on matters like that one must not generalise<ok>

Bedroom tax is the best thing ever !!!OMG ......Are you related to thatcher.......she and her cronies would have been exempt in their 10+ bedroom houses but those who cant afford to pay such a diabolical tax have to prop up the failings of the party for the rich.......unbelievable comment.....

Yes its to stop jokers from living in a mansion when they don't need to. Its not thatcher and her cronies fault that they worked their way to 10+ bedroom houses
