    Southampton v Hull

    SAT 11 APR 2015 - PREMIER LEAGUE
    15:00

    Referee:- Kevin Friend Assistants:- M McDonough & C Hatzidakis : 4th Official:- G Sutton

I'm very pleased to land this match thread just because we are playing against Hull. Hull are basically our customers. Don't know if you have the same expression, but back here that's how we call a team that some other team beats on a regular basis. Their customers. Always coming back for more of the same. :D We won all of the matches we played against them since both teams returned to the top flight. Last season under Mauricio we beat them 4-1 home (one of the best performances of the season with that wonder goal by tw......., Lallana, that is.) and 1-0 away, quite easily if I recall correctly. This season we won at KC stadium thanks to Wanyama. Goal worth looking at again.

Hull lost 3-1 away to Swansea City. They haven't won a match since 21th of february and their win over QPR. After that they collected only 2 point of the possible 15. According to physio room.com, they will be without Gaston Ramirez (who wouldn't have played anyway, but it's comforting to know he's still injured every other day), Nikica Jelavić, Curtis Davies, Andrew Robertson and Robert Snodgrass. That's four first team (most of the time) players out right there, including David Meyler, who got suspended against Swansea. I haven't watched Hull much this season, but I suspect Bruce is still alternating between a 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 formation and might choose the latter this weekend. That would probably mean McGregor on goal, Bruce, McShane and Dawson in the central defence, Elmohamady and Brady/Quin on the wing back positions, N'Doye and Hernandez in the attack, and it the midfield whoever's left. Livermore and two other chaps. The Tigers are not in a very comfortable position on the league table and are very much in the relegation dogfight, pretty much squeaky bum time for them with QPR, Burnley and Liecester all closing down on them, all of them playing more convincing brand of football if I might add freely.

Southampton are coming to this match on the back of a defeat to Everton. It's a very difficult away match to every team in the league and the result should not worry us that much. Though it came after a good run (2W1D) in which we showed some glimpses of early league form so the average performance, in which we only tested Howard twice came as a bit of a surprise, also considering we had the nearly the whole first team on disposition. But once more it probably showed that Steven Davis' importance is the most noticeable when he's not playing, we sorely missed his link up play. Hopefully he'll be fit for saturday. If so, I might be tempted to try a 4-4-2 formation with Mane and Long up top.

Davis: Clyne, Fonte, Alderweireld, Bertrand; Davis, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Tadić; Mane, Long

Or some other variation of formation, but with this personnel basically.

I'm missing this one on account of birthday celebrations which I should have known better to have organised without looking at the fixture list, so we're bound to win. Surely? :emoticon-0105-wink:

Now then from a Hull City fan

All the confidence after the Chelsea match has drained away after Swansea last week, when we were awful & they won at a canter.

Not many connected with HCAFC are looking forward to this fixture, to be honest.

It's squeeky bum time for us, and we don't know which team will turn up, our where or next win will come from.

This is going to be my fourth game this season. I went to Everton 3-0 win. Swansea 1-0 loss and West Ham 0-0. Think I'm due another win, especially as we should have beaten Swansea and the Hammers!

I'm afraid your summary of our players and where they play isn't all that accurate and we've no idea if Robertson or Davies are available, though as Davies hasn't played since January and has another centre back on the bench ahead of him, it's largely academic if he's available or not. Either Brady or Robertson will play LWB(Quinn plays central midfield), Snodgrass is out all season(and has been since 40 minutes into the opening game of the season), Ramirez has been very much a bit part player, Jelavic has(sadly) missed much of the season through injury and Meyler might well have been dropped anyway.

We will almost certainly play 3-5-2, at least we'll start that way, we looked much better against Chelsea when we switched to four at the back and attacked them. The 'whoever's left' to play alongside Livermore will probably be Tom Huddlestone and Mo Diame, who are(at least on paper), far better players than the ones they're replacing. There's a chance the keeper may also be dropped, after a few recent errors, but the other changes will probably make that less likely, so I expect...

    ---------------McGregor
    ------Dawson Bruce McShane
    Elmohamady---------------Robertson
    ----Livermore Huddlestone Diame
    ---------Hernandez N'Dyoe

Personally, I'd love to see Chester in the back three, Brady will replace Robertson if he's not fit and Quinn might start as Diame's just returning from four months out. On paper it's a better team than the one that started against Swansea, but unfortunately, we're not playing on paper.

Good to see Marcus Barnes training with the first team, could be in line for a sub appearance before the end of the season if Europa League is sewn up?

I have said quite a few times before and happy to say again, Elmohamady is my least favourite player in the whole Premier League.

That handball incident (against Newcastle I think?) summed him up for me

He can be a prat at times, including against Newcastle, but I can't see how he'd get anywhere near being anyone's least favourite player in the Premier League.

You've got the likes of Barton, Costa, Cattermole, Terry and Ferdinand and you went for Elmo? :emoticon-0112-wonde

Wow, I was so wrong that I basically predicted the same lineup as you have.

I was just referring to you getting Quinn's position wrong, claiming four players were first choice when they're not and not knowing who our central midfielders are, when they're our two best players(though in Huddlestone's case it's understandable, as he's been doing a good job of hiding it this season).

I can grant you Quin. I think I saw him some match playing as a left wing back, maybe I imagined it. But considering Robertson is out according to physio room.com (I'm just the messenger, don't shoot me!), I assumed either Brady or maybe Quin would deputise.

And I know your midfielders. But I didn't have the slightest idea who exactly might feature this saturday so I decided to be deliberately vague. Livermore and two other chaps, sounds good, doesn't it? I saw that Huddlestone wasn't in the match squad against Swansea so I didn't know what the situation with him was so I haven't mentioned him. And Diame, well, you yourself are saying he's returning after 4 month out with injury, and also on the bench against Swansea, so hardly a shoe in.

Yeah, I'm claiming you're missing four first team players. So Davies, Robertson, Jelavić and Ramirez are the players I had in mind. Which one of them is not a first team player for you? Robertson and Davies obviously are. Jelavić is the first name on the team sheet when fit. And Ramirez had a shaky start to his Hull career, but lately mostly starts the matches, if I'm not mistaken.
