There's a difference between looking good at a smaller club and doing it for a big club. Not to mention the fact he was incredibly overhyped by British media. PFA awards are merely a popularity contest.
What a come down eh My point was we were without SAS and had a ready made pair in Lambert and Lallana who'd shown they could score. Whether we are bigger than Southampton r not we are still in the same league playing against all the same teams. If they were doing it for one prem team it's not a stretch to think they may be able to do it for another. Would they be first choice if we had a proper Suarez replacement, absolutely not but in the situation we were in I think BR could have given it a go.
Yep, he had a run of about six or eight games but couldn't cope with the fixture pile up. Borini got game time around then too. As soon as Studge was back they both got dropped from the squad completely.
We tried Lambert as a lone forward, without Lallana for most of that time too, and for several games in a row whilst his legs died Rodgers' book of tactics II
You are correct , all the talk in Spain is that Zizou is taking the Real job in the summer after a year in charge of Madrid's B team Castillo/Castilla. This is when FSG/Nesv/usa/LFC should strike and appoint Ancellotti as DoF or Manager.
City could do us a favor and take Rodgers, paying us 10mil and we can give the lot to anchelotti for one year. however.......... its far more likely that anchelotti is already in talks with city for the job
Can't understand why City would want Rodgers. Hopefully it is the case ... There are quality young managers that we should be looking at and are much better than Rodgers. Antonio Conte is the latest to trigger rumours after mentioning he could leave the national job. Best case scenario - we still get top 4 this season, and get one of Simeon, De Boer, Klopp, Emery, Conte or Garcia in.
Put simply, neither are good enough for a starting spot. In Lambert's case, he's not good enough to be at the club full stop.
I was talking about when Lallana came back from injury and we had no recognised striker/strike force, Sturridge was out and we were desperate for goals, the pair could have been given a run of games there was nothing to lose. Now it wouldn't work as we've got other more preferred options. Lambert and Lallana had scored 24 goals between them in the previous season, nothing to say they couldn't do similar for us early doors, - but we're past that point now.
They are both average and Southampton played to their strengths with Jay rodriguez. Also they did well for what, 1 season? 1 and a bitr. Its like Darren Bent, he used to work for relegation threatened teams where they could just play it into him to run into space and score goals. His record for all these crap clubs is phenomenal. Goes to Spurs and becomes a 1 in 4 which people have deemed flop. He would barely be a backup for top 4. Its not just about the assists and goals. Look at coutinho, he's not got great stats but he's such a great little player. Lallana and Lambert are opposite to this. Lambert because he's too long in the tooth (i reckon he'd be good if he was younger) and Lallana cause he's all style no substance. Not particularly athletic, not really got the best vision or pass, an average shot and holds onto the ball too long
Would love to see Simeone come in, but very unlikely! I remember suggesting Garcia when he was at Lille, even before we appointed BR, wish we had got him now! Another one to throw in is Koeman, done a very good job in his first season against all the odds, talks sense, tactically astute, and is well respected!
Goals per season prior to coming to Liverpool : Lallana 11,13,3,10 Lambert 21,31,15,14 - not too shabby but like I said, given we had no strike force, I would have given them a run out.
Those are good strikes rates but, the two things: 2 of those seasons are in Div 1 and then the championship. Lallana has 3 goals in his first and 10 in his second which was an "exceptional" season which basically amount to 1 decent season in the prem. He does look like he's got some tricks to him granted but how many players could we reel out that have that 1 exceptional season. Is he worth a gamble? of course by all means but at 25 million which is even more than kroos, you are having a laugh. From what i have seen, he's a decent player for a middle of the table team but bang average (good back up) for anyone who wants top 4. Lambert, i would agree. He has a good pedigree but you need to remember he's another year older and is 33. Drogba an absolute legend for us and everyone knows was a world beater was got discarded at 33 (unfortunately we made the mistake of buying torres). If we compare the two i don't think there is any competition. Not just that, Rodgers wants quick attacking football with pressing. Lambert offers none of those
I was only talking about - seeing as we had already bought them, may as well have given them a go [past tense] when we needed goals with no striker available - you're right they aren't top 4 aspiring buys!
