I know I probably should have tacked this onto an existing thread, but it's a slow day and a new thread seems to prompt more discussion.

According to Talk****e Dave Whelan has revealed that the club may be forced to sell Charles N’Zogbia this summer (feel free to file this revelation under 'no ****').

So he's definitely going somewhere this summer, and hopefully MA will lay some funds to bring him back to the toon. He's an excellent player and would change our right wing from potential weak spot to a potent attacking flank (played excellently there for Wigan last season, cutting in and passing/shooting) as well as being able to play CAM/LAM. Rodallega (and wigan tbh) IMO is crap, and he managed to have an excellent season playing off him, so we'd not be short of goals even if our current (and hopefully one future) strikers don't hit form.

Of course this is all pointless speculation as the deal is set in stone in the gospel according to cwarr

Do people think we stand a chance of re-signing le zog, or are we resigned to the fact that he's going elsewhere? how come theres not been any movement from any parties with regards to a transfer bid yet?

Ashley is playing hardball with Whelan,
Whelan will not sell to Ashley on the cheap,
where Ashley won't buy overpriced Zog
    and Whelan won't sell underpriced,
    well, not to Ashley anyway,
so he'll end up somewhere else for less money

seems a bit strange that we had put a bid in for him when we lost AC (desperate 12th hour attempt)
and now Zog is not worth the money to get him

by the way didn't you ask for this

C'mon though man, that's not half as bad as players who are on over 100k a week at like city. He's a top 4 player and I think 60k isn't actually so bad...

So from what I've gathered from all of these Zog rumours is that; Wigan are looking to sell him, hoping to get 12m. A host of clubs are interested, mainly Villa and Newcastle. Newcastle are trying to get him at 9mil. However Whelan doesn't like Ashley and isn't looking to do him any favours by accepting a smaller bid. Newcastle do not value him at 12?
Why not just fork out an extra £3 million, he's a quality player who looks like he wants to come surely we can stretch an extra couple of million?

He's definitely not a top 4 player, and £60,000 is ridiculously high wages for him.

(Also 60,000k is £60,000,000, which is 60 million per week. I thought not to be a wum mention it, but...)

Haha, sorry about that mathematical derp! <laugh>

I think how you justify wages differs from team to team, personally I think 60k isn't so bad considering we've had players like alan smith on 60k a week for the past 4 years.

but neither of us are in a position to pay 60000 a week on 1 player, he's a good player but like the welsh toon fella said he's not a top 4 player and certainly doesn't warrant that sort of wedge, i seem to remember portsmouth paying top dollar for certain players and they won the f.a. cup because of it but look what happened to them

TBH, Smith was signed at a time when we had no transfer system or wage structure.

Now, we have a team spirit, wage cap and no more prima donnas, and signing Zog would change all of those.

No I totally agree, I don't think Zog coming in would change the team spirit I'm sure he'd be quite welcomed by some former team mates but why have a wage cap if you're not willing to use it on the top targets?

I think you've contradicted yourself there. You said 'No', then that you totally agree, then gone on to agree with certain points and disagree with others. My simple sheep-loving brain can't cope, sorry.

Villa are meant to have put a bid in for Z'og since they're selling Downing to the bindippers.

I was 'totally agreeing' with your point about our former wage structure and transfer policy. The rest is half and half :)
