What does the last seven years have to do with anything at all?

In the last few years they took the best player in the prem in Ronaldo, the best passer in the league by a few thousand miles in Alonso, and a centrehalf as good as any in the league in Carvalho. Barca took the best DM in the league (Mascherano) who isn't permanently crocked(Essien).

And most of the players who stayed in the prem who were top players a few years back (Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Giggs, Cech, Torres, Rio, Terry, and a few others) have all suffered from injuries, old age, or a drastic reduction in form.

The premiership has been declining and the teams in it were rubbish last season.

Real Madrid and Barca just kept getting stronger.

We're not just second best, we've been second rate.

So we'll just ignore that English teams have been outperforming Spanish teams (with the exception of Barcelona) in the Champions League for years.

Real Madrid have big names so they must automatically be a fantastic team, despite the results not showing it. Football isn't played on paper you know.

OK captain deluded. You're entitled to your opinion.

I'm amazed you don't realise that the league has been rubbish for at least 12-18 months and is significantly worse than it used to be.

I can't even comprehend how you honestly formed your opinion. But maybe that's the answer, it's not an honest opinion.

You haven't provided any evidence to show that the Premiership is inferior and that Real Madrid are a fantastic team.

English teams outperform their foreign counterparts in the Champions League yet the English teams are inferior because they don't have as many big names. Great logic.

And you say you don't understand how I have formed my opinion <doh>

What do you think? This redconn is just another deluded clown who thinks because Real spend stupid money on good individual players and they score more goals than United, they must be better. There is no argument like you said, they have got past the Last 16 in Europe once in the past 7 years and have won 1 league title in 4 years. But yeah because they score more goals they are the better team.

Man Utd have reached 3 Champions League finals in 4 years yet Real Madrid, who have reached 1 semi final in 7 years, are better because they have bigger names (according to Redconn).

Got to love some people's logic.

I don't understand how you've formed your opinion at all. You use results of a fundamentally different side with a completely different manager from years back to draw your opinion. And you ignore the facts that the same reasons that Real Madrid are significantly stronger are the same reasons the English sides are significantly weaker. They bought the best of the premiership and it made the sides they bought from obviously weaker.

What did Real Madrid do this season just gone to show that they are a superior team? Was it beating a Spurs side who were playing in their first ever Champions League and who had to play with 10 men for 80 minutes of the 1st leg?

Real Madrid only played one top class team all season, Barcelona, and they lost.

Your logic is that Real Madrid are superior because they have more big names but football doesn't work like that. Many people's opinion is that Man Utd's squad is weaker on paper than Chelsea's, Man City's and Arsenals but who won the league by 9 points and who reached the Champions League final?

They had more or less the same team the season before last and only reached the 1st knockout stage of the Champions League, losing to Lyon.

The only team their spending has weakened is Liverpool. Chelsea have replaced an aging Carvalho with a top young centre back in Luiz. United haven't weakened all that much losing the best player in the world as they went on to win yet another league and reach another Champions League final. In the meantime Real Madrid were getting hammered 5-0 by Barcelona and not really making a massive difference in the sunny SPL. The only difference they have is Ronaldo and his ridiculous scoring. If you took him out of the team you wouldn't have much at all.

I'll leave you to your laughable opinion.

9/10 I say "agree to disagree <ale>" at this point but I'm laughing so hard at you I can't bring myself to do that.

You have provided zero evidence other than that you think having bigger names automatically makes you a better team (irrespective of how the team performs)as if this is Football Manager and not real life, and you're laughing at my opinion! At least I have backed my opinion up.

I think by his logic because Chelsea have taken Torres (a big name) off Liverpool they are now better than Liverpool just because they have weakened them. Is that right redconn?

They got 96 and 92 points in the best league on earth the last two seasons and got knocked out by the CL champions in the semis this year. And they put up a decent fight against the CL champions which is in complete contrast to the most embarrassingly lopsided, humiliating defeat EVER in CL history that the English side managed.

The premiership has been rubbish for a while now. Everyone knows it.

    We'll get better though.

The best league in the World <doh>

La Liga is the weakest it has been in a very long time. Look at how useless the Spanish teams as a whole have been peforming in the Champions League (with the exeception of Barcelona).

Real Madrid reached the semi finals by beating a Spurs side who had never played in the Champions League before. Man Utd and Chelsea met each other so that ruled out one English team progressing whilst Arsenal were narrowly knocked out by Barcelona (they would have gone through if it wasn't for Bendtner).

Real Madrid walk all over everyone else (apart from Barcelona) in a very weak La Liga yet they look average in the Champions League.

<laugh> It gets better. Best league on earth? Is this some kind of joke? They finished 20 points ahead of 3rd place. They scored 6 goals at the home of 3rd and 4th place. Could you see Chelsea doing that at Arsenal or Anfield? It's a joke of a league. The Premier League this season has 6 potential sides who could maybe win this league. They put up a decent fight against Barcelona in how many games of the FIVE they played last season. 5 times in one season against the only team who is decent enough to beat them while United played a full season in the best league in the world and faced the best team in the world at the end of it. A team they hadn't played in 2 years.

The only people who think this league is rubbish is Liverpool fans and that is because you are the only team out of the top 6 who have gotten worse in the past 3 years.

Barcelona's C team (a side made up of youth players) won 3 1 away at the 9th placed team in La Liga. It's hardly competitive.

The season before last Real Madrid scored 102 goals and picked up 96 points in La Liga, but in Europe they were knocked out by Lyon (a decent team but hardly one of the best) in the 1st knockout stage.

If Carvalho was as good as any in the league, he would still be at Chelsea. Chelsea were just as willing to sell as Real were to buy because the guy was past his best. And his performances have said as much. He was fantastic at his peak (far better than Terry imo) but his day has well and truely been and gone. I agree with the rest of your comment though.

However, the fact that Real Madrid like to have a squad containing at least 80 players at all times does tend to stifle the development of some and young players should really be given better advice from agents when the Spanish Govt come calling. Unfortunately, agents are happy to take the money and watch their clients' careers get ruined.

    I agree with that.

I also think Terry has been overrated for an age and then some.

Gallas was the biggest reason for their defensive success and after he went it was Carvalho.

He's very good. Always has been. But I think he undeservedly got all the credit. Johnny foreigner lost out because the English lion was a better story.
