We aren't out of it mathematically BUT we've bottled it just like we did last season, only difference is last season it was for the title, this season it was for the fourth place title. This season we didn't win the two matches we needed to win to put us on the front foot and virtually guaranteed for that, against your lot and Arsenal yesterday, last season we ****ed up the two matches against Chelsea and Palace which we needed to win to get top spot. Mostly it's down to a lack of quality across the park but the way we got beaten yesterday, the manner of defeat was pretty pathetic. No fight, no desire, 10 passengers and a goalkeeper who was having a great day but couldn't do anything in the end about the ridiculousness in front of him.
I'm not totally convinced were out of the reckoning, but I think we have to move closer to top four week on week now. The fixture list being as it is makes this a small possibility, lets see where we are this time next week
look there are 7 to go with 8 point gap. the GD means in effect utd are needed to lose 3 out of 7. city have 8 games left. if they lose to palace we can analyse that then but we expec tthem to win that and move on. Rodgers has already surrendered
This. It is amazing how the two matches we needed to win to literally give us the CL we ****ed up. There is no doubt in my mind that should we have won those 2 we would have been unstoppable as our run isn't that difficult. But it is a symptom of where we are at that they were not accidents or unlucky defeats. We were well and truly owned. Both United and Arsenal are better than us so to win we would have needed the same luck we had against the saints and Swansea. We could still make the CL with some luck but we would really have to improve a great deal as our performances in the CL this season have simply been rubbish.
Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool boss says top four key for new players Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admits failure to qualify for the Champions League will make it more difficult to attract top quality signings. A 4-1 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday left Liverpool in fifth place, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand. "Liverpool is a phenomenal club players want to play for, but players want to play at the top level," said Rodgers. "If you are not in the Champions League it makes it difficult for you." Liverpool's remaining Premier League fixtures 13 April: Newcastle (home) 18 April: Hull (away) 25 April: West Brom (away) 2 May: QPR (home) 10 May: Chelsea (away) 16 May: Crystal Palace (home) 24 May: Stoke (away) Liverpool were five points clear at the top of the Premier League with three games remaining last season, before losing at home to Chelsea and squandering a three-goal advantage to draw 3-3 at Crystal Palace. Second place was enough to earn a return to the Champions League this term, but they failed to progress beyond the group stage and were placed in the last 32 of the Europa League, where they lost on penalties to Besiktas. Their last remaining hope of silverware this season is the FA Cup, with a quarter-final replay against Blackburn at Ewood Park on Wednesday and Aston Villa awaiting the winners in the last four at Wembley on 19 April. "We always felt this year was going to be difficult, that was the reality of it," added Rodgers. "Our run last year nearly brought us the title. We lost a world-class player [Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona] and lots of other developments happened within the club. "But it is frustrating that we got ourselves in a position over the last three months, very close, to then come up short in the past two games. "However, I look at Arsenal and their bench, the world-class players on the field with big talent and it shows the continual work we have to do."
Brendan isn`t really boosting his own players confidence here is he "However, I look at Arsenal and their bench, the world-class players on the field with big talent and it shows the continual work we have to do."
Rodgers is sometimes his own worst enemy. He has to learn to button it . Why accuse your senior players not to play for you? http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-crisis-brendan-rodgers-faces-5465250
Really don't like the EL hate... 1) There's a CL place for the winner 2) We have a shocking European point score right now - we need to perform or when we get CL we'll be pot 3 or even pot 4 3) There's decent exposure from winning 4) Decent games by the semis 5) There are only what... 4 trophies available per year? Realistically 3? Beggars can't be choosers! 6) No reason we can't balance competitions with our squad + youth if we get the summer right
Brendan Rodgers have to learn how to manage pressure(Losing at home to Chelsea last year and United) this year was bad pressure management
I've said this before - when we were in a position where we're expected to win, we bottle it. It's what happened against Chelsea last season, and it happened against United this season.
Totally agree. Plus... 7) Europeans see the competition in a different light to us so it'll still help attract players.
That could be aimed at the players too. Especially since they all seemed to be scared to make a table in both those games!
