Sadly to say Europa League on the card for Liverpool. Liverpool 54 points. Tottenham 54 points. Southampton 53 points. Games to go: Liverpool. Liverpool V Newcastle Hull V Liverpool West Brom V Liverpool Liverpool V QPR Chelsea V Liverpool Liverpool V Crystal Palace Stoke V Liverpool Tottenham. Tottenham V Aston Villa Newcastle V Tottenham Southampton V Tottenham Tottenham V Man City Stoke V Tottenham Tottenham V Hull Everton V Tottenham Southampton. Southampton V Hull Stoke V Southampton Southampton V Tottenham Sunderland V Southampton Leicester V Southampton Southampton V Aston Villa Man City V Southampton
7th will probably get it as well as chances are arsenal or us (if we get there) will win the fa cup and go into Europa.
Although I'm more than happy with Liverpool's recent fck ups, I'm not writing them off 4th just yet. Crystal palace vs City Man Utd vs City City vs West Ham City vs Aston Villa Spurs vs City City vs QPR Swansea vs City City vs Southampton
In the next 5 games there could be some twists and turns. In 5 games you could very well have a sniff of something. You'll grind out a draw to get it imo. Besides Chelsea may well have the title sewn up by then?
Nee have to win every 6 and draw 1 at a minimum I think and with fa cup and suspensions to cope with, and the way confidence would have been dented after the last 2 games, can't see us doing that. Happy to to be proven wrong, maybe Rodgers will #luckout and fluke it
You cant lose in the United vs City fixture. That's at least 2 points (probably 3) clawed back against one of them. With the remaining fixtures I still think one of United or City will stumble. You need 5 wins and 2 draws imo to have a chance. 5th is a certainty btw.
Behave. You're 8 points ahead with a far superior GD making it in essence 9. With 7 games left you'd have to spectacularly **** it up and they'd have to win virtually every game. Add to that the fact that you're in form and they're playing like drains and it's as a good as over
Being brutal honest 5/6th is about our true level. Rodgers first season was his first season, there was lots to fix and change and the league position reflected that. And it's still an ongoing project but arguably one that could've been completed by now given better transfer dealings and tactical choices. Last season was an anomaly. Not that I think we didn't deserve 2nd, we got that finish totally on merit but we had one of the best footballers in the world carrying us to some degree, lifting those around him up a level and allowing us to play the way we did tbf. So this season is a step back and at the same time its not. Which brings me back to this season. In terms of what Rodgers, the owners and the board have done with the club in 3 years our current position reflects the limiting strategy that has been imposed on the team. The wage bracket, the only invest in younger players approach. OK this has its benefits but like I say we're severely limiting ourselves in adopting that philosophy too. The slow, gradual progress of 'the plan' reflects this. The people who can change things and influence the direction and dynamic of the club have to ask themselves is this the ambition they have for the club?? When do they actually want to achieve proper, sustained success?? As LFC fans I think we can all say we've been promised many times great things for the future and every season the future's come and gone (next season is our season etc etc) and we're sick of it, sick of hearing about potential, sick of hearing Rodgers calling players great technicians to cover over the cracks and sugar coat poor, sub-par performances. We're looking at City mucking it up now by some miracle if we are to end up in the top 4. But I'm not sure we deserve to be there and I worry that we'll just be on a hiding to nothing in the CL again just like we embarrassed ourselves in it this season. I'm not turning against Rodgers or the owners yet but if they don't make the right calls during the summer and address the key areas in the squad that blatantly need fixing - so blatant that not just LFC fans see them but opposition fans - then I'll seriously question their ability to take this club back to where we all long to see it.
I fcking hope you're right and I would agree with you if this was the Fergie era. But it took just 2 games to extend the gap to 8. The reverse could easily happen. I would love for City to implode a bit right now to take the pressure off us. Like that scene in The Walking Dead where you shoot the other guy in the leg so the walkers can feast on them while you escape. I'll certainly be rooting for Palace tomorrow.
Can't see how you won't finish up there now. You're miles away from us and we're the nearest challenger for the places. It'd be ****ing hilarious if City get 5th given what that club represents, the oil money, San Pellegrino and the johnny-come-lately nature of it all
Utd having the benefit of playing less games than Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Spurs and us has basically handed them a top 4 spot, last season it was the same for us. If we end up in the EL our squad won't cope, can't see FSG throwing anywhere near what they did last summer at it. Unless we won the EL it would be a noose around our necks next season and there's not much if any chance we'd win it with what we have. Utd did well avoiding a 5th place finish last season.
Amen to that. I would love City to implode. Re your earlier post about deserving top 4, I posted on our board a month ago that if you got top 4, I wouldnt begrudge you it. The football and results since December merited that. It's all about perceptions. Spread the 2 losses out among that run of 12 and it doesnt look so bad and I bet the mood would be quite different. I bet you a couple of weeks from now that could very well be the case. I'm serious when I say Liverpool arent out of it just yet but I will enjoy the fact you've stalled
