We put all our winnings lottery/scratch cards, find money in the street ,change jars etc into a holiday pot... Last year we got £800 together which paid for a trip abroad.....this pot has only been going 4 weeks and now we have £250 already towards a November holiday ....our August trip is already paid for
Good for you. I always believe money you haven't planned for should be used for pleasure. I got an unexpected inheritance...could have used it for mortgage, debts etc, but had a great holiday in Florida instead. Not wise, but I remember that holiday more than I can remember how I eventually paid off those debts.
We plan and budget for 2 holidays a year the 3rd one which comes from the extras pot. Always go away first 2 weeks of August because it's my work shutdown and also takes in the wife's birthday, this year it's a new destination for us....Mauritius 12 nights adult only all inclusive Got to admit getting a little excited about this one.
I usually have two holidays abroad a year minimum as I go with 2 different friends. This year all 3 of us are going together...means I miss out on one holiday (didn't see that coming). Am now going on a UK coach holiday...first time I've tried that. Will have to separate my friends next year
My mother as she is single goes on coach trips round the uk and she loves them, but shop around a bit then you can find one where you don't pay single room supplement. Where you going abroad this year Fran?
Peurto Pollensa, Majorca....same place as we went last year. We enjoyed it so much that my first reserve friend wanted to go as well, so we've booked an apartment. First time I've done that.
Very nice....we like Majorca it's a lovely island, our favourite island there is Minorca even thinking of retiring there.
Bless. No holiday for us this year either. Too many things around the house need doing and then of course he season tickets.
I would go mad if we didn't go every year.....we only got back 3 weeks ago from the last holiday and are already counting down the next one.......16 weeks next Saturday
I'm sure once I eventually get away I'll come back and think "jeeze, I didn't realise quite how stressed I was"....
We both have quite stressful jobs so when we go away the August holiday has to be adult only so we can totally unwind and relax.....if only they did adult only planes....that would be bliss.

I had 2 holidays (both UK) in the first 18 years of my life...my parents never had a holiday till I took my Mum to Jersey (so she could babysit ). It is possible to survive without holidays. I told my father-in-law we were going to Italy one year. He replied that it was over rated and he wouldn't go again. We had to point out that we weren't going to fight at Monte Cassino.
As a child I went to Spain/Mallorca a number of times, Greece/Crete a number of times, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Iceland, Turkey and America.
That reflects our differing childhoods. Working class kids in the fifties/sixties rarely went abroad....remember the war hadn't long finished. If your father had spent years abroad fighting, he wouldn't rush to leave home again. We did day trips, but never felt deprived because few of my friends went either.
Yeah, different eras. I feel very fortunate to have grown up in a time where it was easy to travel abroad.
