Match Preview
QPR return to Barclays Premier League action following the recent international break with a trip to The Hawthorns, home of West Bromwich Albion this afternoon.

Knowing time is running out in their bid to beat the drop, victory will be deemed a must for Chris Ramsey’s side in the Midlands, with the R’s heading into the weekend some four points adrift of safety.

The trip to the Hawthorns comes at the start of a busy week for the Hoops, with key clashes against Aston Villa (a) and Chelsea (h) to follow in the next eight days.

Rangers have, of course, already enjoyed a notable victory against the Baggies this season, with Charlie Austin’s stunning hat-trick clinching all three points at Loftus Road in December, as the Hoops came from two goals down to run out deserved 3-2 winners.

Ramsey is unlikely to make too many changes to the Rangers side that pushed Everton all the way last time out, with the R’s players who were on international duty this week and last expected to return unscathed.

Richard Dunne and Leroy Fer are closing in on returns, with Ramsey revealing the duo are likely to be available within the next few weeks.

Craig Dawson serves a one game on Saturday, but hopes are high in the Baggies camp that Brown Ideye’s knee injury will have cleared by the weekend allowing the Nigerian to start.

Albion will also be boosted by the return of Chris Brunt and Claudio Yacob from their respective bans, but goalkeeper Ben Foster remains a long-term casualty owing to a recent knee injury.

No Austin in your team nines? Very strange. I think Ramsey will go with his tried and completely failed hoof ball 4-4-2.

I see that Harold's knees are well enough to be standing pitch side at Arsenal!

What a great signing by BT!

What no zimmer frame? You mean he lied about his knees. ..shirley shome mishtake! !!!

Great thread as per 9s.

Thanks again for the top quality match thread. We may not very often get the results we crave for and need in our life's right now, but we do at least get the best match day threads on this website from our very own Mr 9's!<cheers>

Talking of results I recon this one is a draw, Nataly 1 - Debbie 1.

Now come on U R's, please I beg you give us a happy weekend, not another grumpy one!

Thanks Nines. A radical team you put up there!

I was having a think about what I'd do if I was our manager. We concede two goals in nearly every game and we don't score enough. Therefore we need better organisation in defence. Playing three in the middle adds a bit more solidity in the heart of our defence when we don't have the ball, with Isla and Yun supporting in the flanks. A back five if you like. I've dropped Caulker as the bloke is a complete nightmare and makes too many mistakes every game.

We have two holding midfielders which is not ideal but we don't have any box to box players in our ranks. If they can win the ball and shift it quickly to any of the front three then we have a chance of creating something.

I've left Austin out as he makes us one dimensional. We need to try something else as we're too predictable and it's easy for the opposition to defend against us. Vargas is also more likely to create something out of nothing, whereas Austin doesn't seem to have the ability to do that. He's a great finisher and that's about it generally.

Taarabt can hopefully supply that sprinkle of magic that can make a difference and Phillips, if his mind's right can offer the drive and power for us to get forward quicker to open things up.

It's all inconsequential anyway, Ramsey would never play that line-up.

Perhaps we can emulate Arsenal's performance against Liverpool today scoring 3 goals in 9 mins just before half-time, and not that Liverpool look that bad with good scoring opportunities themselves.

You're right that Ramsey would never pick that team.
You say that we don't score enough and then leave out Austin. Not sure that makes much sense.

With your team I'd swap Vargas with Phillips and put Austin up top.

Well of course he'll start with Austin. ( edit, just confirmed. ) What I was speculating was just that, mere speculation. It's not really here or there what I think it's irrelevant. But having said that I still think Austin has been poor recently and if he's not scoring he offers nothing else. Our last win was without him too.

Here we go again with Austin and Zamora up top. It's just like having Harry back. Medieval bloody football. We'll concede at least two again today and by five o'clock this horrendous season will be just about all over.

Yep.

Well don't like the team, 4 4 2 again apparently, with little protection for our full backs on either side, and it looks like more hoof ball. Adel who looked like he could get us a goal or 2 when he came on last game, is not even on the Bench. Vargas needs to play like I never seen him in that position.

That's the best side we can name. At last, Ramsey has picked a decent looking team. The bench looks shocking which highlights how poor our squad is

With vargas completely out of position on the left and 4-4-2? He could have picked a much better team and formation.

We'll need to score at least three today to get anything from this game today.
