Just out of interest, I wondered what people's local pubs were (or what they consider to be their 'local' by preference, if not locality). For example, my most local, geographically, is probably The Whittington & Cat. However, my chosen local (I say chosen, I only go here because my friends insist on it and it's near to where I used to live) is Haworth. Realise a lot of people on here no longer live in 'ull, but what was your boozer before you left?
Mine used to be the Polar Bear on Spring Bank. Sadly, from what I've seen on visits, it's either a shadow of its former self. OR CLOSED! Another goody is the Welly in Russell Street (behind Campanile). Great beer!
My geographical local is the Elm Tree in Aldbrough. My "local" is the Haven Arms in Hedon, great little pub.
Haven Arms isn't bad at all, went there for an after Christening party last year and have since been a few times just for evening drinks with mates If it isn't out your way, get to the Roos Arms, that is now a fantastic pub (with exceptional food)
Not my local, in fact it's about twenty miles away(so slightly off-topic), but I went for the lunch at The Percy Arms at Airmyn yesterday(near Howden), well worth a visit if you want something to eat(there aren't many decent eating pubs around nowadays). It's a bit of trek if you're coming from Hull, so maybe just bear it in mind if you're lost and hungry in the Howden area. When I started going to pubs, The Star in Willerby was my most regular haunt, in Hull it was the Polar Bear and New York.
The best pint around is Old Mill Bitter, from The Station on Bev Road(that's if it hasn't closed down already).
Tricky for me.. which ones have I spent the most time in? 1. The clubhouse of Hainsworth Park Golf Club in Brandesburton (was a member) 2. The Windmill in Beverley - I was a part-time barman there for 3 years. 3. I lived in Hornsea 12 years went most to Pike & Heron. 4. Gardener's Arms when I was a student at Humberside Uni (but was living in Hornsea) and nowadays The Wallace in Lyon old town is my local!
Eagle on Anlaby Rd but if I was going for a good pint I would go to Top House in Hessle they had a lovely pint of bitter in there
when I go to a City match with my bro-in-law we usually have a couple of pints before the game at a pub near the ground on Spring Bank West, can anyone tell me the name(s) so I can remember? and it's not the one on the corner of Walton St... it's a bit further up..
The pub on Walton Street corner is - I think - 'The George'. The next one, on the same side, going away from the railway line and Walton St. is poss. 'The Broad Highway' (?). Or is it 'The Half-way House' More than likely.... A while since I supped in any of those pubs!
Next one up is the Halfway House, it's nearly opposite my mum's. When I was a kid we used to go in The George because they'd serve us at 17 whereas back in the mid eighties Halfway was a bit posher and would be more careful at IDing us. It used to wind me up because I was the only one getting ID'd but I was the oldest one out of me and my mates....
