What about Terry Paine (sorry if he has been mentioned before) Martin Chivers, did he play for England while he played at Saints. Osgood perhaps
So far we have: C. B. Fry Alf Ramsey Terry Paine Mick Channon Steve Williams Danny Wallace Matt Le Tissier Alan Shearer James Beattie Wayne Bridge Rickie Lambert Adam Lallana Luke Shaw Jay Rodriguez Nathaniel Clyne David Armstrong was still at Middlesbrough when he was first capped. 18 to go.
Terry's on the list, Chivers went to Spurs in 1968 and wasn't capped until 1971, and Ossie was still at Chelsea when he was capped in 1970.
Need to look that up, Got his debut in the same year. Done so. You can add Tim Flowers to the list. Transferred to Blackburn in November '93, but made his England debut in June '93 during the US Cup. 12 to go.
Just checked the 1he Saints cup final teams at the turn of the century on Wiki and it just goes to show that the Southern League was almost the Premier League of its' day. There were SEVEN England full internationals playing for Saints in 1902. Jack Robinson, Archie Turner and Harry Wood all made their England debuts with Saints to add to Chilco's list.
Blimey. I fell into the trap that Northerners tell everybody. Football isn't played in the South, and certainly it wasn't in the Southern League. Must admit, I was wondering where the 12 were going to come from. 9 is much easier. Here's another: Mark Wright.. 8 to go.
Updated list in roughly the right order historically: C. B. Fry Arthur Chadwick Jack Robinson Archie Turner Harry Wood Bill Ellerington Bert Lee Fred Titmuss Bill Rawlings George Molyneux Alf Ramsey Terry Paine Mick Channon Steve Williams Mark Wright Danny Wallace Tim Flowers Matt Le Tissier Alan Shearer James Beattie Wayne Bridge Peter Crouch Rickie Lambert Adam Lallana Luke Shaw Jay Rodriguez Nathaniel Clyne That's 25, 8 to go. I'm just going out to watch a blues band so if you could all kindly carry on the research I'd be most grateful! Edit: Crouch added, cheers Lewebster. 7 more needed! Edit: Artur Chadwick added, thanks saintlyhero. 6 to go.
Same as with Rod Wallace. Malcolm Waldron was another England B capped player. Might count, might not.
And people wonder why we get a little anxious when our players finally get international recognition. Crouch was just another in an inevitable line of ex-Saints players. The thing is, we always gave players a chance, even already established players who, for one reason or another, couldn't get a consistent run of games elsewhere. But they blossomed at Southampton.
Arthur Chadwick....Godders will remember him from the turn of the century Surprised to see Charlie Wayman never got an England Cap
Thanks, Arthur had 2 caps in 1900, then moved to Portsmouth and was never picked for England again. Table updated, 6 to go!
Must admit, so was I. Even if it was during his time with another club. Zero caps. Mind you, it may well have been Tom Finney in his position, then one would understand.
Apologies if this has been included on a different thread, but I've just come across this little quote from Roy in relation to JWP (hidden within an article about Poch): "'We like him,’ said England manager Roy Hodgson. ‘We’ve kept our hands off him simply because of the Under 21s but we know he’s a big prospect and the moment he comes back from the Czech Republic he’ll be very much in our thoughts.'" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...e-saviour-English-football.html#ixzz3WNcKr8X7
They mentioned that on Sunday Supplement (Sky). Interesting because a few fans remain unconvinced about JWP.... as I said before he's not a flashy player, but seems to be valued by his team and manager. Southgate is a real fan of his. England management have said they want to see more players go through the age groups into the senior squad, which will mean they have played together before.
