Nothing wrong with what Townsend said it's only natural to want to prove doubters wrong and the Tweet was just a bit of a laugh. Nothing wrong with Merson having a negative opinion on Townsend either, it just makes him look silly when he gets paid for his opinions and gets shown up so emphatically. The footballing equivalent of "I aint racist, I've got a black mate", he wastes no opportunity to slate us and predict us to get battered by Chelsea and Arsenal only to be made to look silly again. Funny how Townsend was picked out despite Barkley, Shaw and Welbeck getting picked against club form, or Wilshere and Chamberlain in the recent past. It's just a coincidence that he plays for Spurs, eh, Paul? While we're on the subject of bitters, anyone seen Lawrenson's "prediction" for the Burnley game? Instead of talking about the game he goes on a rant about how people are treating Kane like Messi. From the man that praised Suarez's attitude change after managing to go a whole season without biting or racially abusing anyone, yeah we're the ones getting carried away Seriously, it's worth reading, probably the worst case of the bitters you'll see.
I am not usually around on a Saturday afternoon to watch Jeff and The Boys, but when I am, I actually enjoy listening to Merson. I like that he doesn't care what people think of him and he doesn't take himself too seriously. As a player, he had some great banter with the fans when he played at the Lane. He doesn't pretend to be something he isn't. And anyway, I have read far worse things said about Townsend on this site, than what Paul Merson has said about the player on his twitter account.
I've just read that Lawro prediction and I think it's time for him to be put out to pasture completely. Paragraph's about how Kane's overrated, then a couple of sentences about the actual game, which he's supposed to be discussing. He may get it right, but his prediction is clearly what he wants to happen, rather than what he expects.

When as it looked like Chelsky would not qualify for the CL via the PL, he changed his user title weekly to the name of Spurs next PL opponent.
I'd agree with all that, as I said I don't mind the opinions and banter, and I like listening to them all on Saturday too. I do think he's responded to Townsend petulantly and lacked the humour he usually shows though(just FYI it was Townsend that Tweeted, Merson did his bit via Sky Sports and his column in the Sun or Mirror, I think). I do think pretending not to be ant-Tottenham is pretending to be something he isn't. He's a Chelsea fan who spent his career at Arsenal, it's no great surprised that he doesn't like us but I just wish he wouldn't pretend otherwise.
I did used to enjoy soccer saturday when they had the former players on, ridiculous at times but good banter. ........ and as for hearing worse comments on here regarding Townsend......guilty
This week he's up against Phil "The Power" Taylor, who predicts a 2-0 win for Spurs, but has Chelsea drawing with Stoke (surprisingly given he's a Port Vale fan) and City losing!
