Thats interesting. If there is a standoff between the club and Sterling, Will Sterling be winding down his contract?

So it might come to this:

On salary: Sterling losing £65k/week since the contract was offered to 2016 ( 2 years or 104 weeks)= £6.5 million. The owners will have saved that amount.

On transfer fee: Will go for nothing. The club will potentially lose £40million or more.

On new wages: 5 year contract: So that if he were going to sign without a fee, his new club will only need to pay him an extra £30k/week for him to recoup his earlier losses. Which would be easy for that club as they will get a 22 year old without a transfer fee and who they could sell on for a massive amount!!

Sterling has everything to gain by winding down his contract. The club must really negotiate and get him to sign a new contract.

Depends how you want to look at it. You can choose to believe Sterling and choose not to. However 99% of footballers are money grabbing hecks and i guess for them the more the better.

Would i do the same, i dont know but if when you are one of the key players in your team which Sterling is and have the potential to be World Class which he has and you look to the side of you. You have a legend in Gerrard getting paid loads fair enough. They you see Balotelli, Glen Johnson and the rest of them milking the club you can't help but think you should be getting a larger slice of the pie.

The other thing you need to take into account is that there is now a new tv deal come in which means all clubs will have a lot more money to spend. I'm not saying its right but if he think he can get far more than 100k then hes just trying to do the best for himself financially. As someone said earlier about loyalty, it works both ways, if he picked up a career threatening injury the club would not hesitate to have him terminated.

As for his slow down in form, he's playing wing back now and he isn't getting the same oppotunities as to score. Not just that your whole team recently hasn't been creating so its not just down to him.

Agreed, Liverpool have it all to lose by not getting a deal done (this could be faulted at the players feet but no one has all the facts)

In this day and age, it is not good to call some one "boy". Someone should really tell Rodgers.

I read that last bit and wondered how? Then wondered where? Because in order for that to be true, first you'd have to decide his best position. We've without doubt been at our best in a 4-2-3-1 and watching you at the start of the season, he doesn't seem to be able to play as that typical wide man that suits our style. He'll end up crowding the midfield with our other central players. He could play as a number 10 like last season, but he wouldn't get into a starting line up. Wing back? No thanks. It's all academic but I don't think he would start tbh.

I think United are one of the few clubs that could afford him. And if he does wind down his contract he could negotiate with them without LFC able to stop it. He will be able to play on the right wing and he will improve your strikeforce.

I've never ever finished watching a match and thought "my god we have us a ****ing good player here" re. Sterling. His pace is is his biggest asset and he does have some trickery, but his shot is a limp dick and passing is better than average. £30-40 million sounds about right (He's British, prem proven, 20, showing potential)

In his first season or two there were enough Liverpool fans criticising Suarez for his finishing. He's not just about pace, he's a great prospect. For a player dependent solely on pace I give you.... Theor Walcott! Sterling has far more to his all-round game at 20, than Theo Walcott has ever had. Theo can finish, but so what, that will come for Sterling.

If he's as bad as everyone is making out, how would he get in above Januzaj, Valencia or even Mata playing there? To be honest I don't think we have any chance of getting him, or are even going to go in for him so it's a moot point. Why not City - replace Navas who's not lived up to expectations.

  12. Because he's a better playing than Ashley Young!

I agree, he's a good player and will get better. He's making mistakes at the moment and his finishig is poor but the lad has talent. I agree with most though, he's not so good that we'd be nuts to sell him and quite simply he needs to sign early doors in the Summer or we put him up for sale and buy a replacement or promote from within (Ibe, Sinclair).

  15. True but we're not talking about him playing for you this season are we <doh>

<laugh> He is better than Young, yes Young has been slightly better than the crap he's served up since you signed him but he's a poor player and Sterling would start instead of him. TBF though I don't think Young has played since you switched to a 4-3-3 and Sterling would be competing with Rooney, Mata and Fellani if I remember correctly and then RVP in the mix when fit.

It's obvious our greatest fck up (among many recently) was letting Pogba go. Sometimes you have to do your best to keep the player. IF this is about CL football or how he's being used, then someone could (and should convince him to stay, even if that means giving him what he wants to a certain extent). Liverpool will always take one step forward and two steps back if they let the likes of Sterling leave.

Alright mystic Meg, we'll all imagine he'll be better next season? Which begs the question...why are most of you writing him off then.

Young has been a better winger, and a better wing back, than Sterling this season. To argue against that is ridiculous tbh.
But if we're saying generally, is Young good enough, probably not so I'd apply your argument to Di Maria before Sterling.

It is a risk but I'm not so sure he will ever be a great player and it's not going to be a situation where he goes for peanuts (Pogba, Matic). The main aim has to be, if he leaves get the right money and then replace him well.
