american NFL teams (quite a few), have pumped the sound of people clapping into their stadia during good plays,

The thing I am wondering is, IF the crowd can lift the team during play, could it work in the library that is the KC?

It doesn't appeal to me. It would be as offputting as canned laughter on unfunny comedy shows.

I suspect some clubs here do that without advertising it. Although when I suggested it was happening at one ground, I was told it's against league rules.

Isn't it just Atlanta that have done it? And they were fined and stripped of one of their draft picks.

Anyway Pat, if you went to the KC you'd know that it's no quieter than other English grounds. The thing we should be focusing in is getting our singers back in sync. The East and North at times make a big noise, but completely out of time with each other and it ruins it.

That was always going to be the case with the recent changes, but it's far, far from the only problem. The danger in saying that's all that's needed is that it misses the other key factors.

The factors existed before the move to a lesser degree, but the move has certainly not improved them, and if anything has made them worse. It broke up the natural momentum that would have carried forward from last season for a kick off.

It's a shame the move to get a group going to look at solutions to what was a recognised problem died on its arse for some reason.

It's not "during good plays" that's the issue - it's the noise being turned up while the away team has the ball, in order to disrupt the QB's ability to call plays. And yes, it is cheating.

There is a slightly better option. You simply mike up the crowd and amplify it a little (you could also pipe it into the West stand just to annoy them). Its not canned chanting but it might improve the atmosphere and get a few more chanting

Arsenal did it when they closed one end of Highbury , it was when they painted faces of their supporters on boards behind the goal too - probably early 90s IIRC
