Yes, read the article earlier this morning, very lucky escape. Always liked Orlandi both as a player and person, very nice guy.

I couldn't get that link to work but looked it up - he almost got on that flight that crashed last week. Makes your blood run cold. I always liked Orlandi - showed some touches of class on occasion.

I hate flying, there's not much you can do when the engine cuts out at 32,000 feet? Take off and Landing in particular are my pet hates, that and living in a toothpaste tube does my head in. My Wife and kids are trying to talk me into a flight out to Cannes for a summer break, they prefer that to my driving?

Technology is so advanced nowadays that pilots and co pilots are really redundant , systems are such that most commercial airliners can be and are at most times flown through computer software .

Surely they have to change the system whereby one of the pilots is able to lock himself in the cockpit once the other has to go to the loo. Years ago you'd often see the cockpit door open throughout the flight. Safety concerns have changed all that, but nothing is foolproof. Already in the last few days some airlines have changed the rules and stipulated that a pilot cannot be on the flight deck alone, designating one of the cabin crew to accompany the remaining pilot,if the other is caught short. I can see in the future that they will have to redesign flight decks to include an integral toilet.

One of our factory managers wife was on the plane, I was due to see him next week as visiting the factory. Tragic news, and he has a young family as well.
