Well we could give you a medal but then the Supermod would change your name to "Mutley". (Those who are too young to get the Wacky Races reference- lucky you!)
That actually tells a story in itself! A microcosm of life itself, if all football chairmen similarly forgot about Chris Ramsey when drawing up a shortlist. He should actually stand out like a sore thumb, being the only black manager. But I'm of the opinion that there is institutional racism for sure in football. Anyone who says otherwise is massively blinkered. We haven't yet reached a point where chairmen are the product of a more enlightened age; and the flood of foreign chairmen may yet mean more opportunity for Asian or Arabic managers, but may also make it harder for black managers, given racial cultural attitudes to black people by not only white old men. How many crap white managers get job after job after job? How many times do you hear calls for Shearer to come out and manage again? Bryan Robson was employed by a lot of clubs. John Barnes is a difficult case, though - as many have said, he's basically crap. Does two clubs (+ one national team) = QED? Would a white manager have gotten four chances to get to the same conclusion? Who knows? But at the end of the day, it is a simple equation: if a black manager is good enough, every chairman in the league and Premiership would take him. Similarly they would take a female manager. The problem is there are none of either, and until a black Mourinho comes along, it will stay that way.
No prejudice against gingers at Saints...25% in the Leihberr era....must be greater than the general English population.
Yes, I was referring to Ron in my original post, but Ball and Strachan of course paved the way to allow Koeman to get such a job.
Fans sitting behind me often refer to him as the gInger wizard. To the naked eye, it could be construed as blonde, but ginger is also a state of mind, and he's got it. You can tell from his complexion. I'd put any money on him having a ginger beard if he grew it. We'll leave the discussion safely above the neck, though.
Yeah, you're probably right. I think I am really more concerned about the obvious merry-go-round of managers. There is certainly a lot of dross blocking the path of potential newbies.
We have to be really careful about the language of prejudice here. I mean, how can I put this? (Some strong language)
The trouble is racialism is surely open to interpretation and intent. I find it difficult to understand how some statements can be deemed racialist yet others are not.
