Morning all from a chilly but dry day promised! NZ, our clocks went forward last weekend! We're on BST, but where the Hell is summer? Have a good day all!
Thanks Dave. Ours go back on Sunday so instead of being 13 hours ahead, we are 12 hours ahead for the Derby game and 11 ahead for the Middlesbrough game. It gets confusing.

Morning all - day off today and looks a fair amount of time may need to be spent in the garden. Either the wind was responsible for the state of it or some Luton fans found out where i live!
did everyone see thar stevenage is level on points with the scum they play each other on the last game of the season. Would it be good for stevenage stop the scum getting in the playoffs lol
Afternoon all. Walk along the South Downs Way this morning...almost blown away but a very nice ploughman's in very out-of the-way pub.
It was introduced during WWI as a fuel saving measure - less fuel needed in the evening by the general population meant more could be used for the war effort. The UK and, I think, Canada kept it on after the war, but others adopted it again on an as needed basis - such as during the 70's energy crisis. I think these days it is more a case of there apparently being a benefit to having an extra hour of daylight in the evening for leisure activities. As to why France & the UK are different, I recall being told that it was to do with the Meridian Conference in USA in 1884 - where the time-zone system was established. A point that caused disagreement was that GMT was elected the reference standard - the French wanted Paris Time. In true Gallic fashion, they went into a huff - it was a matter of national pride that they be in a different time to the English. That certainly sounds plausible but I don't know how true it is though.
The extra hour of sunlight in the evenings also results in furniture and curtains fading more quickly, which means that people replace these things more often. That is good for the economy.
We're currently the same time as the UK, but there was talk a few years ago because we're part of the British Isles but closer to France of changing our clocks so we were half way between the two! Thankfully, it didn't get any further than talk. If memory serves me correctly, it was talk relating to Jersey changing, so if it had happened, we could've even been on a different time to the rest of the Channel Islands.
