It seemed to me as if everyone was filled with genuine pleasure at seeing a decent, level headed young Englishman doing well on his well deserved England debut.

Yes. I watched a gif of Kane scoring as it was loading, so it was super slow motion, yet the crowd reaction was still odd. The crowd kept rising and rising as the ball approached, then entered the net. It looked like they were going to float away in about 20 more frames.

As I've mentioned, I had him down as the second coming of Dirk Kuyt. But Kuyt was a very successful player, even if scoring was the problem with him.

Sadly the pecking order is established and I doubt Kane will play ahead of Rooney, Sturridge, Wellbeck and Sterling regardless of how many goals he scores! It will take a run of injuries and suspensions to change that, evidence alone does not count.

Are these the same England fans who booed Peter Crouch on his home debut? Kane will do well match Crouchies goal record but at least he hasn't suffered like le Tissier who was magic at club level but didn't appear suited to international level.

But Kane is going to be involved as without him, the plans for the future of English football are screwed.

Nice to see Kane do what a striker is meant to do, whatever the level.
If it was not for the fear of a <standard> , I would like to see him start against Italy
(as it would be a good one-off test for him against a team with a strong defensive tradition) .

  10. I don't agree with that analysis.

Hodgson has got to be extremely wary of the intense scrutiny of the public and the media. If he doesn't play Kane in the important matches and England flop (yet again) under him, he knows there will be a massive and irresistable clamour for his sacking. The safest thing for him to do is to give the public and the press what they want, and to play Kane; that way, he can't lose: if Kane does well, but England still flop, Hodgson can say, "I gave you what you wanted, but the rest of the team simply were not good enough." If England do well with Kane, again, happy days for Hodgson. If Kane screws up, Hodgson will have one over on the press and public, to tell them to leave important footballing decisions to him.

Accordingly, I can see Hodgson using Kane a lot during this current campaign.

Agreed, though, that I doubt Rooney will be the one to take the bullet for him.

    1. No WUMming please. ;)

    2. No need for Kane to do anything for the England seniors.

Let Woys' favourites do the spade work of qualifying for Euro 2016 (more or less done now) .
Kane can be looked at as 2nd half sub and as a starter in the remaining friendlies.

Meanwhile we can look to the summer to see how the Kane/Berahino partnership
continues (is it the future of the seniors etc) .

  12. The super-sub role may just be the one that Roy has in mind for Kane, to start with, perhaps.

But there simply isn't another English striker like Kane, not at this level, so I think Roy's options are rather limited. Hence, I can see him coming to rely more and more heavily on Kane.

As I said before the match, regardless of the style England wants to play, if Kane keeps scoring like he has been scoring, he's an automatic selection (though I'd rather he stay with the U-21s). Besides, he's more adaptable than most. He can play on the wing or lead the line.He has good all-around ability, and while he isn't the fastest player in the league, he's not slow either. I would dump Rooney, as he's failed in big tournaments at least a couple of times too many.

Ben Davies had a great game too - left sided centre back.

I can remember when they seemed to not want to try Bobby Smith for the England team. But finally did and he scored an absolute beauty on his debut!I can see it now as he placed the ball over the goalies head and under the bar. They never new he had that class....but we did,at The Lane!

Southgate praises Carroll's performance and the injury doesn't appear to be serious.

England 3-2 Germany. Carroll out, but Pritchard comes on at 66 minutes with England 1-2 down. I have no idea if he had any influence, but he can't have done much harm!

    From the BBC Sport feed...
Goal! England U21 2, Germany U21 2. Nathan Redmond (England U21) right footed shot from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Alex Pritchard.

  19. Kane starts for England against Italy.

If he has a decent game, you can pretty much guarantee that he'll be first on Roy's team-sheets for the rest of Roy's tenure.
