For years I used to think Dalmations were cats that barked. Sometimes if I woke early as a youngster, my Dad would take me on his milk round. One day there was a huge Dalmatian in the window of a customer barking and I asked my Dad what it was. Sarcastically ( yeah, that's where I get it from), he said it was a cat. It stuck for a few years until I saw a Dalmatian while out with my mum and said, "Look Mum, it's one of those cats that bark"... Dad got a bollocking that night.

Sorry to be smug, but just want to remind people that love French wine, as I do, that I work for a company based in the capital Olof Burgundy :emoticon-0126-nerd:

Good man, have spent many expensive and pleasureable hours in Dijon. Did you take the job just for that reason, cos that's proper hardcore if you did <laugh>. Good mustard too, I guess because of the good vinegar.

An Anglo-Saxon eye salve (described in a 1000-yr-old medical book) made from garlic, wine, cow bile and onions shown to be 90% effective against MRSA. So perhaps treatments in the past weren't as ineffective as many may have thought.

I'll have to watch that, mixing up wine areas with administrative areas. I'll go to Beaune next time, and tell them you sent me.

Garlic and onions are natural antiseptics so makes sense. I always wondered though how they just happen upon using something like cow bile as an ingredient, and whether it was a really messy accidental cure, or whether it was just substance number 125 on the list of things to rub in someones eye that might just do the trick this time and they got there via 124 blind Anglo Saxons.

Apparently the medical book revealed that Anglo-Saxon physicians did understand experimentation and observation...much as scientists today...and the eye salve worked as a preparation rather than one ingredient being effective.

Garlic is very good for you. I worked for Seven Seas once and we would get talks on the products. Lots of stuff was bullshit, but fish oil and garlic talks had some very believable facts.

I still prefer my version Fran, complete with imaginary scene where useless assistant passes the wrong jar when they were mixing up their eye salve and accidently improved the garlic rub, even though I know you're right.

You can now buy plasters containing silver, but the antibiotic effect of silver has been long known....the reason why nurses belt buckles used to be made of silver.

Hence the expression "nod's as good as a wink to a blind Norse"?

You may have seen this, but I hadn't. Heartbreaking picture of a small girl holding up her hands in surrender when a photographer pointed a camera with a telephoto lens at her and she thought it was a gun. I defy you to see it without crying for her lost innocence.

Only slept for a couple of hours. Fences still there, but had to chase a patio table down the garden and one pot broke.
