Just a thought, but say - for example - 200 Feyenoord fans had already booked flights / ferries to come over for 4 days for the Barnsely and City matches. Now just cos the matches are cancelled doesnt automatically mean they wont come. If it was me and my mates and we'd gone to this trouble, booked time off work, sorted travel etc we'd still say sod it, let's go to England for a lad's weekend. In this likelihood there's a good chance without football to distract them that they've got more time to drink and knock about the city centre causing aggro. Just a thoughtk, like.
From the Feyenoord OWS - Feyenoord, Hull and Barnsley would have played two practice matches, but the police in the areas concerned have refused to grant permission for the games to go ahead, based on information about an impending confrontation between Dutch and English hooligans.
Feyenoord used to be as bad as Leeds and Millwall. Now that Barnsley have done the same i feel its come from Holland. Time to MERGE THE THREADS. OLM ?
Well if they do still come think about this. Hull City home to Liverpool the day they were due @ Barnsley. So you could have 3 sets of fans @ the KC. Now that will be fun for the local Fuzz.
The British police expect a few hundred fans, but a few thousand have already booked. The matches against you and Barnsley are cancelled because in UK the police-deployment is paid by the clubs...
Wasn't it a bit naive for the Police to expect a few hundred fans from a big European club that travels well?
Indeed, our last real European trip was in 2008 to coruna and this year we don't play in European cups and the first few years we're definitely not going to qualify because our team is real bad now. So everyone who normally goes abroad with Europa league games wants to make this trip.
Some of CI's contributors, who are based in Holland, said a while ago that they had heard a couple of thousand were travelling(staying in Leeds and travelling to Hull and Barnsley for the games).
Antwerp have an average attendance considerably lower than Bradford City have in League Two, Feyendoord have an average attendance on a par with Liverpool, Chelsea or Man City.
It seems the club itself must have been naive not to take this into consideration when agreeing to/ instigating this fixture. Everyone knows what Feyenoords fans are about (not that we hold that against them). Surely they should of got an estimate of the potential cost of policing. The idea that only a few hundred happy clappers would turn up for this game is plain daft. It makes me wonder about some of the fukwits that run our club. They seem to find new ways to embarass themselves, as well as us. Many people have been inconvenienced over this shambles, mostly Feyenoord fans but many of ours as well. After the back word on the Grimsby fixture they reallly have messed this up. Cringewothy.
If any of you are still coming over, there's options for a beer, perhaps watch a game and even have a game your selves if you fancy. See link. Hull City Independent.
Apperently the humberside police thought it was a team from Rotherham coming not Rotterdam hence the U turn on letting the fixture take place.
I'm not staying in Hull but posted your link on a supporters site so if they wanna play a friendly they will reply on that CI forum.
