Northern Ireland doing well with another win today....would love them to qualify. Would mean so much to a small nation.
Just as well for Italy and Netherlands that the qualifying procedure is easier this time, elsewise they would be in trouble. Only Slovakia and England have perfect records but I doubt anyone will be praising Hodgson.
Just remembered when I met José on the tour of Staplewood on the opening day. He told me he wanted to break into the Portugal squad this season, and finish up the top end of the PL - improving on last season. Tick.
Much as I think Papa Waigo had the best goal celebration that I've seen, there's an honesty about Shane Long's delight. He scores, runs and roars at anyone on his side.
I like that too, but is it Honesty or just that he doesn't do it a lot and so it a celebration of surprise?
Was Kelvin giving us a bit of a clue when he said: Go on, Papa, we'll celebrate together, you do it on your own (roughly from memory). He didn't say it in a nasty way as he seemed to find it amusing, but perhaps not such a team person.
Good point, fats. We always qualify (well almost always) and often qualify well because every group has smaller sides. We are good enough to beat most European sides, but struggle when we get to the finals and meet only top countries. That will be the break through when we can win against such sides under tournament conditions. We have been good enough in the past...it is shameful that we haven't won this competition yet.
I particularly like the look of horror on Seamas Coleman's face as he realises he could be marking Shane next week!
