Denilson, Rosicky, Bendtner, Almunia, Squillaci, Diaby and Vela out!
Well according to most fans anyway. We cast around for culprits when Arsenal don't perform to the level we want and we like to blame our squad when they're not even playing. And I can see that our squad hasn't performed well enough, over tiring our starting XI, but lets take a look at them fairly, as a prospective buying club might.

Denilson- Samba Star. Hugely rated as a youth prospect. He won a special talent visa where Miyaichi, Vela, Galindo, Botelho and Wellington Silva have failed. He is often accused of just being able to pass sideways and also of being rubbish at DM. However, he does have a screamer of a shot on him and he has proven himself able to play a 50 game season when needed to.

I think his problem is that there isn't a place for him at Arsenal. He is not a Defensive Midfielder. He is not an Attacking Midfielder either. I think he'd be great in a side that needs a midfielder to play the Xavi role. After all, a younger Xavi was always criticised for the same things as Denilson is now. He can play the safe passes, be extremely tidy with neat tricks and has got the potential. Incidentally, arguably his best performance for Arsenal was against Barcelona, where his and Walcott's introduction saw Arsenal draw 2-2 after trailing most of the game. His ability to break up play and relieve all the pressure on Arsenal was giving Xavi a lesson in being Xavi.

I also remember his strong performance, and great freekick against Hull City. He bossed them about beautifully.

He's no push over either. Before football, his upbringing meant that he was no stranger to hearing gunfights outside his house and you rarely see him take abuse on the pitch. He's still got a very long way to go, and you will mock me for my comparisons to Xavi, but I do think he has it. Mind you, "it" will take a while to show, possibly when he hits the other side of 26.

A good prospect, just better off in Spain or Italy as he sees his competition in Wilshere, Fabregas, Nasri, Ramsey, Diaby, Lansbury and so forth overtake him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2G2qxWVZqY -Denilson skills and tricks. Towards the end it has his Barcelona performance as well.

I think he's leaving the club, and I think that's good for Arsenal. But I feel that we don't do players like him justice and get carried away with having a go at them. If people like this and let me know, I'll carry on the series to talk about our other players too.

There will always be players who are never accepted by fans and become pantomime villains.Denilson is one such player. You then have players who will always be favourites with fans even if they are lazy and useless.Arshavin falls into this category<ok>

I understand, but he was beginning to win a lot of us over before Wilshere. I was trying to look at it from the perspective of another club looking to buy.

No, but after his statement about wanting to leave to win, I think he's severed ties.
Do you think that doing similar things for the other players I mentioned would be a good thing?

I'm in the give him a kick up the backside camp.
I think if I just use one thread it'll become a wall of text. I'm not suggesting doing them at once but over a period of time.

Denilson is lazy and complacent IMHO.

He has some good skills but gives the impression of being disinterested except maybe in 'big' games. i call him 'disinterestson'.

He is taking good money and doesn't seem to be bothered about 'proving' himself to the fans.

for a Brazilianfootballer this is a crime.

I won't be sad to see the back of him.

He shouldn't be on such high wages, but that's the fault of the management. He has tried to prove himself to the fans, remember all his long range goals in 09/10? We just never warmed to him.

And goonercymraeg, you know I'm a huge fan of Ramsey and sing his praises constantly.

It would seem Bendtner is on his way out as he's not in the squad for the Far East trip

i rate Bendtner very highly. not quite as highly as he rates himself though (or do i!?). it'll be a big shame for him to leave but i understand why he wants to go.

what is a denilson? he's not as attacking as say Gerrard, can't create like Fabregas, doesn't have the passing range of Wilshere or Alonso, and isn't a DM like Song, Essien etc. for me he just doesn't have a position. he's an all-round "CM" who may play well alongside another similar player in a 4-4-2 but doesn't fit the Arsenal system at present.

I have this horrible feeling you could be right. As long as he goes abroad then things will be fine. But if he stayed in England....<yikes>

  17. Like Denilson, Young Niklas is another who hasn't had much opportunity to hone his skills. I can't help but recall his appearing and netting late goals in the final stages of the '08 season such as the home match against Villa when he scored the equaliser at virtually the last gasp. I wonder how far he might have progressed had he been given a fair share of appearances. That he doesn't have enough first team starts tells on his confidence and ability to play at the highest level. There probably isn't the room for him at the club so gong abroad would be the best thing for him and us. I sure would hate to have him end up in the PL and regularly score against us!!!

The thing is with most of these youngsters, If they were playing regularly at a different club, people would be shouting out for wenger to get them, how the height and heading ability from bendtner is just what arsenal need, a big man but with the touch and skill!

Or someone to keep it simple in the middle get the ball back and start the attack!

I know exactly what you mean. I think we could really use a Spanish league set up where we have B sides that play in the lower league. It would allow certain players to make the step up.
