Hi everyone, I have read 606 with interest since I retired but it was getting a bit tired and this site looks better.I've seen some great players during my time as a supporter and my Favourites are Jimmy Montgomery Stan Anderson Charley Hurley Jim Baxter Kevin Phillips Sir Nialll What a time to be a supporter-I feel Europe is within our grasp but maybe a yuear too soon but if the rumoured signings happen then we may well be ready. In my early days of supporting the lads we had Don Kitchenbrand(the original Daryl Murphy) and it is great to be only associated with a better class of player. KTF

About 1961 for me, my Dad magically appearing with one of those big old wooden pop crates for me to stand on in the clock stand. My first official game was in 1958 Vs Arsenal at home. Lost 0-1 Len Shack's last league game. Used to go in for the last ten minutes when they opened the gates if we wern't playing our local leagues that day
Don't knock "The Rhino" Sussex, He may not have been the most skilled centre we ever had but have you seen his scoring record? Pretty impressive.
Jealous of you seeing Shack, both my parents were regulars during his time. The tales they used to tell me were amazing.
Nice one, Sussex. How about Charlie "Canonball" Fleming and Ted Purdon? Fraser; Hedley, MacDonald; Anderson, Daniel, Aitken; Bingam, Fleming, Purdon, Shackleton, Elliott. We also had Ken Chisholm at that time. We really started to go downhill when we signed Charlie Hurley. Before you all start shouting "SACRILEGE" I must say that I was a great fan of our Footballer of the Century but it was the rest of of the Sunderland team who struggled to play with King Charlie. Until then all centre halves played hoofball, nobody expected him to play like Rio Ferdinand, bringing the ball out of defence and actually passing it! Happy days, just after the Bank of England team, and we reached the FA Cup semis 2 years in succession - beating the unwashed 2-0 in the 6th round at Sid James! What an old git to remember that - I must be going senile.
55 and very grey hair - Do I meet the criteria for 'old codger' status? Also brought up on Charlie Hurley, Monty and the promotion team of the sixties. Saw Clough play too!
I'm also new here but have watched the conversations on 606 from afar for awhile. Dad took me to my first game in 72 I think. It was against Bolton and we won 3-2, I was hooked from that moment on. Gary Rowell would definiyely be my favourite from my youth. Glad to be here and will debate with interest.

No mate just till sometime in the new year, no specific date, but will probs look for a new contract mid to end of January, I love being home for Christmas and New year, I dont do a thing, until Jan 2, then I fix all the bits that need doing, when all is put right at home, time for a new job.
