There was an incredible surprise in the Malaysian Grand Prix. Despite the engine expiring and not having time to set up the car, Hamilton won the Malaysian Grand Prix from Rosberg. The surprise is that the driver was Paula Hamilton, standing in for Lewis, who damaged his ear when his head grew too big for his helmet and his diamond ear stud caught on the strap, causing a nasty cut. Paula stood in because she is small enough to get into the car. First choice was George Hamilton of the suntan fame, but the fake tan ran all over his white driving suit and was not considered the right "image" for the Team. Paula was pleased to win, especially as her experience with Mercedes is limited to an A Class A140. "The car was quite easy to drive", said Paula, "and seemed to go a lot faster than all those others I passed by the second lap. I had quite a duel with Rossy, but being a gentleman, and following team orders, he let me past after I kangarood the start and dropped back to last. It took a whole lap to regain the lead and I was really worried for a while, but when I found second and third gears, the car went much better." Ferrari were pleased to be "closing the gap" when they finished only 7 laps down, the Hondas beat the Red Bulls and Christian Horner was seen talking to the head of engineering at Hyundai, who are rumoured to be looking to buy a team.
Id rather a team catch Mercedes through effort compared to whining their way up. Be patient this is F1 not football. No quick fix.
Iv'e been patient for 30 years and seen rule change after rule change to make the "competition a level playing field" do just the opposite. It's just a farce now, and when teams can't develop engines because of some ridiculous points system, then the competition is done. Good on Mercedes, they have got it right, but others should be able to fix their engines , as long as they are compliant, like they always could. isn't research and development supposedly one of the great benefits of Formula!? Not any more.
Mildy amusing - before the idea that Rosberg is a gentleman letting Hamilton win which is way off the mark - as again shown in his behaviour during qualifying. Result for tomorrow is probably correct though! Although I'd like Vettle to beat Rosberg. The contest for the best German might actually become quite interesting this, and the next few, seasons.
You're preaching to the choir old bean...We all want a good open fight, but in reality those seasons are few and far between in F1. Thankfully the Indy season starts this weekend
Well you certainly got your wish, and I got a very big surprise ! The Ferrari looked quick and stable and the mercedes finally showed their achilles heel is tyre wear. They also stuffed up their tyre strategy. Not many tracks as hot or hard on tyres as Malaysia, when it's dry, so who knows whats to come. Actually thought most cars looked a whole lot better than in Australia and the pace was up from pretty much everyone. Lewis and Nico were very rattled, they are too used to having things their way methinks.
