Its not as easy as finding a new home, its more about raising the Cobb Morley at the moment. The fact is that we have at least one place to put "our" banners and although it is not perfect, with a little adjustment we could make it work for for future banners.
It's great that we raised the cash for the banners and got them made, Dutch and Mauled deserve a lot of credit, but it's a little annoying that you can't really see them and the sooner that's resolved, the better.
Short answer. No. We could tweak them within ther current locations. The only options at present for other locations would involve some one coming up with a suitable way of mounting them. As mentioned in the previous posts, the priority so far was to get them up in the ground. Now we're comfortably passed that, we can discuss any other options or suggestions that people have. If anyone has any specific thoughts, they can be put to the club for consideration. I'm wondering if there's somehow an option to use the money not yet used for away support? The club have said they're willing to meet some costs. The key considerations in my view are: Other plans the club may have for the space, The logistics of getting them up and down, Proof that they or any fittings will not impact on the structure. The fittings must ensure the flag is secure and not liable to flap about and cause problems. The spaces offered at one point, were those with existing cross pieces. There are discussions I'm about to have with the club on a couple of banner related issues which could add a bit more colour around the place, but without wanting to be secretive, I'll mention them if they come off.
Totally agree, but lessons were learnt. Such as make a banner for an area, instead we made a banner and then tried to find somewhere to display it. The Cobb Morley banner is heavy and as such has different issues. Actually from where you sit, the Cobb Morley may not work but from other areas in the stadium it is just too low thats all.
Thanks Hat, It was the first one I've ever made and it looked bloody massive in my back garden!!!! I suggest a picture and single words going forward
The problem is, most of the available space in the stadium is currently taken up by advertisement hoardings. I know the club/smc needs to earn a buck, but it's looking a little tacky at the moment. The row of advertising above the seating is the prime area. Filling that with black and amber would look spot on.
I think you're spot on. It seems all parties are in agreement with that. It could all change in an instant, but right now, it looks like something for the future, so we need to look at alternatives while that's being considered.
The club are looking at reducing the in-ground advertising, both the fixed stuff in the stadium and the stuff on the big screens.
Some of the considerations for those changes could create some fantastic opportunities for banner displays to be incorporated into themes. It's part of what I want to talk to the club about. Imagine a theme displaying a timeline of the club's history...
Their lies are in their on going dialogue to their customers, a constant veil of deceit over a few years now, some (a few) of those customers have supported the banners. I have no intention of being selective in trying to unravel their lies, but it is not too hard to follow their actions, as reported by you. I have no intention of supporting the owners, as you do. Since this commenced you have waxed and waned in your thoughts of how the club have responded, but you are now an advocate of their robust cooperation, a cooperation that has taken you some real effort to gain. I have no intention of getting involved, beyond my original contribution (there will not be another), I still question the engineer's structural concerns (it's a theoretical nonsense), I have offered you the basis of an idea as you childishly continue to request an engineers report, but all you really want is an argument. In the real world this would have been resolved the next day, if there was a will to do so. They could try talking to these or Google some other specialist, as it is what any consulting engineer would do. The whole idea (the point I questioned) of there being a concern over structural movement, caused by the 'sail' effect of these banners is still laughable, if being used as an on going technical concern. There should be more concern over the health and safety issues of banner breakaway in high winds (if someone is daft enough to hoist them). Is the real problem a banner that is too big, perhaps?
A lot of words saying nothing In a tedious way. If you have a point about the banner, make it, and back it up with facts rather than clinging to one minor theory that you've clearly misunderstood. For a start, the owners have had zero involvement in this, another is that the structural issues are a tiny, possibly insignificant part of why the banners can't go there yet.
I've misunderstood nothing, I've offered very practical solutions that can be considered on-site, I've offered avenues of reference, in a supportive way, but you would rather be dismissive and argumentative. At the end of the day we have a banner or two that some of us paid for, banners that have been displayed (eventually) but are not displayed to good effect. You keep asking for ideas on how to move forward and I don't see you being inundated with response; although I have offered some in a reasonable way - but you would rather be defensive and use it for cheap shots. How Allemesque you have become.
You never responded, although Mauled had the decency to do so. This was a practical suggestion of how to hoist and show the banners in the structural gaps between stanchions; it offers the key option of hoisting only at relevant events (FC, Squash, bands, etc.) or when weather conditions are in favour. You will see, on the random link I offered, that there are non-intrusive connectors for stanchions, so the structural integrity is not compromised. What is the technical quality of the material? What are the dimensions of the banners and the stanchion spaces that are preferred? Let's move away from your futile condescension and onto some real ideas, because this is growing arms and legs that do it no justice.
Your 'suggestions' were ones already looked at, but they cover only one tiny part that may itself not even be an issue. As for Allamesque, and on top of unsubstantiated slurs and misunderstandings.
The first line shows the nonsense. I did reply. You've even responded to it. You're trying to make an issue that doesn't exist. The club are keen for those gaps to be filled. There are a number of other issues for things to come together. It's possible they will in the fullness of time, and it will be better to have a co-ordinated display rather than spend time and money on what could be temporary fixes. It's better in my view to deal with what we know we can accomplish in the shorter term ,while working on the bigger picture.
You made the first post just last night, so what do you mean by yet in your second? Either you want help or you don't, which is it? Do we need to raise more money to make the banners fit-for-purpose, or to replace them with one's that are?
Anyway ....... I may have said this before, but it bears repeating. A flag that honours our four D2 to PL heroes, not just Ashbee, would get my vote. Ash, Daws, Bo and France. True City legends.
That's what we're in the throws of trying to decide. It's why I asked for views. I'm happy to go with the concensus, but personally favour something portable for these so we can have more choice. Hopefully they'l be complimented by later schemes if the will is still there.
