I saw a part of Miliband. He hadn't made much of an impression on me from what limited "highlights" I had seen of him before, but he made a good impression last night. He seemed to win over his audience, and handled Paxman's continual interuptions pretty well as it progressed. He came over as refreshingly modest compared to haughty Cameron.

Just imagine Ed Milliband as Prime Minister on the world stage. A population of 60+ millions and this is the person that's been chosen to represent the British people. Surely we can do better than that?

Perhaps all the party leaders should be asked to eat a bacon sandwich on live TV, so that we can get a proper view of their suitability for the post.

I simply can't believe that the polls all show the Tories and Labour pretty much even stevens. Labour have Milliband, Balls and Harriet bleedin' Harmon, the economy is well on the mend and yet people are still considering voting for red Ed!! Bizarre!!

I hear where your coming from Col and kinda agree but the way they have hit the disabled in this country is abhorrent. If it wasn't for their attitude towards this element of society, I wouldn't feel such distain towards them. Iain Duncan Smith is going to lose this election for them. Add to that the way they have not taken the banking sector to task but hit the poorest in the country instead and the lack of action in sorting out the energy market in this country is the reason I can't vote for them again. This will be the first time I haven't voted conservative in my entire voting life.

Yeah, great idea. But, of course, it's not just about that. He just comes across like some student activist who's never had to step out into the real world and hold down a proper job. He doesn't convince (me) when he talks about his ideology; it's as though it's all text-book, student rally mantra stuff looking for some perfect world application.

Cameron, on the other hand, appears evasive on the key issues, because the truth is that in order to manage the deficit a Tory government will do an awful lot of very unpopular things to the Welfare State budget. He knows that he has to allude to this, but to give specifics is to lose a significant number of votes belonging to a sizeable portion of the ignorant as-yet undecided electorate.

What do you imagine my bias is?

I'm amazed this thread has lasted so long without descending into partisanship. Looks like the Tories are getting rattled by Milliband now though.

I was amazed at just how crap Miliiband came across last night, Stan. Sure, there's more chance of me learning fluent Swahili than ever voting Labour, so I'm obviously not speaking from a neutral position, but the guy just doesn't fit the PM bill for me. I could see some statesman-like qualities in John Smith, Gordon Brown, even Blair and the Welsh Windbag. If Ed Milliband becomes PM you may as well fill the cabinet with the likes of Joe Pasquale.

I don't see much evidence of the Tories being rattled by the guy. If I were Cameron last night, I'd have been marginally happier with what Milliband's performance did for my chances of re-election than with my own efforts.

I don't know what everyone is getting so worked up about, we all know Alex the Salmon will be running the country from May so unless your name begins 'Mac', you can look forward to being taxed till your pips squeak and have little to show for it. Even Rab C Nesbit will be on a promise...

I really don't get why anyone would vote for the Conservatives. But anyway....

Has anyone used this website? I really think it would change the face of politics if we all used something like this. You pick 4 categories that are important issues for you (health, education, democracy, etc) and then you are given the essence of the party's policies without being told which party the policies belong to. Then at the end it tells you who you should be voting for based on what policies you liked.

Nice one. I came out 80% in favour of the policies of one particular party.

Come on Ubes, you're the first one on here to openly admit to being a lifelong Tory (well actually Rules beat you to it by a couple of hours). You might as well tell us which party it is.

    Conservative or UKIP?

Ha! 40% Tory, 30% Labour, 30% Liberal! Zero Kipper and Green, thank the lord (or in my case, don't bother). Badges? I don't need no stinkin' badges!

Some really poorly written stuff in there. And whoever I vote for I won't be keen on more than half of their policies. Brilliant. Suppose I'll have to go on looks. Again.
