Under-21s striker Semed Yesil is close to ending his injury hell as he nears his return to full fitness, with next month’s game against Fulham pencilled in as a return.

The German youth international has ruptured his anterior crucial ligament twice in a year at Anfield, limiting the 20-year-old to just two appearances for the Reds first team.

Signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £1million in August 2012, Yesil came to Merseyside with a big reputation having scored six goals at the Under-17s World Cup in 2011.

U-21s boss Michael Beale hailed his finishing as “second-to-none” and believes Yesil is back on the comeback trail ahead of the game on April 7.

He said: “Samed has been back in for about 10 days now. After such a long time out, he hasn’t got that core fitness. But we’re hoping by the Fulham game, he’ll be ready to play some minutes.

“We want him to get a good three or four months of playing and a good pre-season in him, to show his own potential. His finishing is probably second-to-none in our group at U21s.”

Beale also revealed attacker Ryan Kent, who has also missed time recently through injury, is close to featuring - amidst loan interest from lower league clubs.

“Ryan is a really exciting player and can play in a number of positions. We can’t rush him; we’re hoping he can get some minutes in the Fulham game,” Beale added.

“When he got injured we were devastated for him because at the time Ryan was getting quite a bit of interest in terms of going out on loan and was a star player in the U21s.”

I hope he can come back stronger but suffered 2 major injuries now and I don't hold much hope for him.

Time will tell for this lad, no idea if he's good enough. Sinclair way ahead of him now when it comes to first team opportunities.

He had huge promise when we signed him, however we've seen plenty of cases over the years where players simply don't get back on track after big injuries - never mind two of them. Suppose in pre-season we might see a glimpse of him and if he's still got a shot or not.

From what I know Yesil is similar in style to Klose. A fox in the box. Could be useful if he can reach the right level.

Is he the one who was going on loan to some Turkish club and tweeted a picture of his cat and a gun in his suitcase or something?

Came with big promise, ruined by injuries. Can't see him really stepping up into the first team but apparently, as has been mentioned by many that he is brilliant at putting the ball in the net.

Don't know much else about his game though... doesn't strike me as the mobile pressing runner we currently crave upfront.

for me there is zero chance a kid can return from this at a club our size.

He's got to have lost pace as a result of this so no matter what anyone says about finishing if he's not quick he can do nothing.

Poor old fowler had the same. just lost it instantly with a knee injury but could still finish... but its no good if you can't get there

I saw foalwer at his age BTW. yesil is no robbie folwer.

unlucky kid but there you go... duran was a great little midfielder for his age and he had the same... its not something we can really protect against in a contact sport.
