Man of the match.. Again !!!!!

Harry Maguire Latics Man Of The Match v Bolton

Latics may not have got the result they wanted last weekend against Bolton Wanderers, but the performance of the team and in particular Harry Maguire warmed the cockles of a few cold hearts.

Maguire has been voted the Vital Latics man of the match for this game and he had a very good one too. Along with his centreback partner Jason Pearce they kept the Bolton attack quiet and basically nullified for the whole game, there was just the one effort of note that took a wicked deflection to wrong foot Al Habsi and give Bolton the lead, apart from that there was nothing with young Maguire leading by example, if only he'd been with us all season.

For the record the voting was:

    Harry Maguire - 39%
    Marc-Antoine Fortune - 30%
    Kim Bo-kyung - 17%

Harry Maguire - another top performance

We really are quite blessed at centre back at the minute. You'd almost think our manager knew a thing or 2 about it.

    Oh wait.....

Shame you don't know when to use an apostrophe.

But I don't quite know what you're criticising here but if you mean McGregor, he cost £1.5m. In 1999 Alex Ferguson spent a then huge £4.5m on Massimo Taibi.

    Done.

Was going to say the same. Harper and Stockdale have both been excellent too.

The apostrophe is used correctly ... in the plural of an abbreviation. First, engage brain.

Tigerspants54 you remind me of the fluid excrement my body dispelled during an affliction caused by the norovirus. With every duplicate post relating to your frankly dull, unoriginal, uniformed and poorly crafted criticisms of one Alan McGregor, my lack of enthusiasm for your existence and presence on this board merely grows, heading inevitably towards a pinnacle of sheer insipid frustration that humanity contains a creature such as yourself.

That really reminds me of an old Les Dawson line.

Goalkeepers does not have an apostrophe unless you're talking about something owned by a goalkeeper ie the goalkeeper's / goalkeepers' gloves.

When using the abbreviation you shouldve said GKs.

That's either a brilliant faux pas or a brilliant gag.

    Either way, it's brilliant.

Your first statement is correct, as most six-year-olds know. Your second statement (even ignoring the ironic "shouldve") is completely wrong, though few uneducated people and only a minority of educated people would be aware of this. I suggest you do a little research on the use of apostrophes in abbreviations. Then you can choose whether, wisely, you should quietly drop the topic or, unwisely, you should continue on to make an even bigger fool of yourself. Something tells me you will choose the latter path.

    You were correct.

I write professionally for a living. I've never once used an apostrophe when taking two initials from a word to make an abbreviation.
