A few days ago Nicky Ajose signed for Peterborough Utd as well as a few lads going there also on loan. I didn't notice anyone comment on the move and was wanting your thoughts. The lad is still very young and did well at Bury (granted well below the PL) & I'm not saying we've made a mistake, just he never got a look in. What you think?
Maybe SAF has decided we are covered in that position for the foreseeable and by which time someone else will come through? Only a suggestion so don`t hold me to it.
I think United are now a different animal to when we gave the kids a chance before. We now almost require world class players in every position with regular internationals in reserve. For me now, for youth to get a chance at United they need to look something extra special so whilst these young players may look good that just isn't good enough for us anymore. I do wish them well though when they move to new clubs
When building a great team like we did in the early 90's, giving the youth a chance is vital, and a great way of not only finding players who will make it, but loyalty so that when they do, they'll stay here. Maintaining a great team through transitional periods as we are now, is totally different as you pointed out. We can't really wait for these kids to mature because we require instant success in order to not be labelled 'declining.' This means when we buy, we buy as close to the finished article as possible, or find kids who appear to have brighter future's than the ones we have in our academy. This means we see a lot of our youth prospects going out on loan, or being sold relatively quickly.
Couldn't it just be he's going to posh for experience in matches, and if e turns out a good player united could bring him back to play with them?
the players that graduated in the 90'2 were all potential world class players, ajose is not, hence why we sold him
If Darren is sacked by Peterborough will Fergie recall the loaned players like he did on Preston last season.
I don't see the problem with sending youngsters out on loan. We have no need to push them in at the deep end that some teams have had to do with some players. Arsenal for example, more out of necessity than design got Wilshere into the first team and he did well. Some of the young kids at Liverpool had to be played because their first team wasn't doing it or injuries or whatever. At United, we don't really have that problem. We have so many combinations in midfield that have proven to work, the only problem I can recall for a long while is the defensive cover in 2009 when we had to play Carrick and Fletcher in defence. And so far, those United players that have come through our youth system in recent years have done very well. Welbeck had some great moments (goals against Stoke and Derby) in a United shirt, Jonny Evans has been very good for the most part of his time in the first team squad so far and the likes of Matty James and Josh King have done well on loan.
Haven't seen anything of Ajose to make me believe he's up to the task. I think he's behind Rooney, Berb, Chicharito, Wellbeck, Macheda, Owen, Diouf and King in the pecking order, and some of those are likely to be moved on in the near future. Given that he didn't really set the world alight at Bury, I think letting him go is the right decision.
Think Swarbs he got into double figures in his spell at Bury. I remember hearing the manager (Not Richie Barker but cannot recall exactly) who also signed him on BBC radio praising him. Im not saying it was a mistake just he never got a chance and unlike other players such as Macheda exactly managed to find the net.
13 goals in 32 games in League 2 for the club that finished second doesn't quality as setting the world alight imo. I think the achievements of Welbeck and even Diouf overshadowed his. Macheda is another one that may also be let go this season imo - he's also behind Welbeck, Diouf and King on the fringes I think.
