    for N'ZogbiaBy Colin Young

Comments (0) Add to My Stories Share Steve Bruce is preparing an £8million bid for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.
The Sunderland boss may even be ready to sacrifice record signing Asamoah Gyan as part of a deal that would cost Spurs £5m. Bruce has contacted Spurs about Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch - but he is wary of the club after wrangling over Darren Bent's move north two years ago.
Out of favour: Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe
Bruce also hopes to hijack Charles N'Zogbia's Wigan exit with a £10m package, although Aston Villa are favourites to sign the midfielder.
Sunderland, who have spent £30m so far this summer on 10 new players, yesterday confirmed the free signing of Blackpool's David Vaughan.
Darron Gibson is expected to join Manchester United duo John O'Shea and Wes Brown at the club this weekend.
He will follow new signings Keiren Westwood, Seb Larsson, Craig Gardner, Ahmed Elmohamady, Rory Deacon, Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-Won.

Sunderland have been busy this summer.
Defoe was so poor for us last season that I'm surprised anyone has bothered putting a bid in for him.

But, from a Spurs' perspective, I would be happy to see Defoe used as a part swap deal for Gyan. He'll thrive on the constant supply from Bale, Lennon and VDV.

Gyan is a very good player just not sure if we are ready for him so Defoe would suit me

Harry does have his favourites. Which is a shame as Pav is probably our best striker currently.

Who left the back door open?

    Welcome back, Luke ;-)

You red and white Geordies are going to have to stump up more than £12mill for Defoe, especially if you're going to try and tell us Gyan is worth £24mill.

SSN have just said that Sunderland have stated they won't be signing Defoe or N'Zogbia... so guess that means the bids are in already!

Sunderland will still finish mid table or worse. The best thing about the Defoe signing is that he's leaving us. I'll give him one year there if not less. Luke,Defoe has been failing since his 5 goal haul against Wigan and I think that he is a spent force. Only next season will tell who's right. We need a new strike force which means Defoe, keane and Crouch must be looked at. I would keep RP.

Love it if we could get charles Nzogbia and Gyan even if it was at the expense of both pav and defoe, maybe it will happen. IMO we should keep crouch as he can be a handful as long as he does not start and only comes on to provide a different option.

Agreed. If Bruce, or anybody, thinks they can buy Defoe for £8mm, they must be dreaming - or on something. The guy is, no matter what some people on here think of him, a proven Premiership goalscorer. They ain't easy to come by - and so, they ain't cheap.

I know some will say Defoe is inconsistent. But then, look at Torres - he's consistent!!

Aslong as Gyan wouldn't be our main striker signing then i'd be very happy with this. Would love to bring in Leandro, Gyan and Rossi. That would be an aswsome strikeforce. Defoe has been misfiring for 18months now and although i believe he would do a good job at sunderland i feel Gyan would do a much better job at spurs. Gyan would thrive off the service of our Midfield.
