The Black Cats are just one point above the relegation zone with eight games remaining but have not won in the league for seven games. They have not collected three points since their 2-0 home win over Burnley.

Those seven games without a win have included games against teams around them such as Hull City, Aston Villa, West Brom and Redknapp’s former side QPR.

Speaking to Alan Brazil on Talk Sport the manager – who left the Hoops in February citing an upcoming knee operation for the decision – was asked by the host if QPR could stay up when he made the comments about Sunderland.

He said: “I think it’s going to be very, very difficult [for QPR to stay up]. But, having said that, I think Sunderland are bang in trouble.

“My honest opinion, I think Sunderland at the moment are the worst team in the division.

“QPR went there and beat them 2-0 just a few weeks ago. I think they’ve got it all on, Sunderland. I think it’s going to be tough.”

New boss Chris Ramsey got his first R’s win at the Stadium of Light in the 2-0 result, but that remains his only win for the side second bottom of the Premier League.

Redknapp added on the relegation scrap: “I think Burnley and Leicester are decent teams - they’ll still have a go.

“QPR have two decent away games now (West Brom and Aston Villa) where they need to pick up results. One result can turn it around for them.”

The former Spurs and West Ham boss was actually a name mentioned as a candidate to take over at Sunderland after Gus Poyet was sacked last week.

Dutchman Dick Advocaat is the man who has been handed the reins but couldn’t stop Sunderland’s rot in his first attempt against West Ham. Sunderland are next up against Newcastle on April 5.

I agree with most of what he says to be honest. That's a first.

Get a win or two and we're fine but until we do I really wouldn't play down how much **** we're in.

Pre season I identified games that were winnable or "must win" fixtures. Only Burnley have given us the win but 'Arry does have a poi9nt by calling us the worst team in the division at the moment. Our performances compared to early in the season have fallen away drastically leading to the current mess.

Leicester certainly proved his point last Saturday - they chased Tottenham every inch of the way. They went 2 down, pulled it back to 3 - 2, and finally lost 4 - 3. There's still some fight in them, for sure.

I think the sooner we accept that the better. Dick has a hard job on his hands (How many accidental innuendos can you fit in one sentence!)

If he takes us down I'll bear no ill will to the bloke. He's come in at a time we're an utter mess. If he keeps us up it's a credit to him.

We are absolutely the worst team in the league at the moment.

If he'd just said 'worst team' he'd be wrong but 'at the moment' there is little doubt.

We've got little Dick now so......

Spot on. I absolutely detest the idea of SAFC in any other but the top division (I was born and brought up in that mind-set) but I certainly have no intention of blaming Advocaat for anything. We lost 2 - 0 at home to QPR and 4 - 0 at home to Villa long before Dick got his phone call. That's where the damage was done.

There's a few teams that have got a "we almost did it" story from the weekend. The thing is they didn't. Leicester may continue to put in some performances - so what? Points mean prizes:azn:
I think it's high time we just ignored what all the "pundits" say. They don't know any more than us. All I know at the moment is the league is not telling me we're one of the worst 3 teams in the division and I hope it stays that way 'til the end - except a rapid climb up the table pronto would be lovely.

Diarrhoea is an absolute ****e word to spell, and as I have to write it down regularly when filling in sickness forms etc, I developed the above to help me remember the correct spelling..

The form table reflects that we're the worst team in the league at the moment along with Leicester.

Yes, the worrying thing for us is that Leicester, Burnley, Villa and Hull are all showing effort, and that will get them a point occasionally. We've been showing no effort, no cohesion, nothing. I think the West Ham game was encouraging - at least we tried, and were unlucky that the goal came too close to the end for Dick to do anything (possibly Watmore?) about it.

Agreed. I'm by no means saying we'll definitely drop but unless Dick can find a team that will pick up points... We're bang in trouble.

No point slagging off pundits for saying as much. They're right.

He's absolutely right but it still hurts to hear it. We are the worst team or second worst behind QPR. Burnley and Leicester have more pace and treat but they aren't as good defensively.

This **** pisses me off, I've heard so many times how where down etc but the fact is we are not in the relegation spots..

Proved nothing. Denis Smith managed Sunderland in 1990-91 and almost every side they played against said "too good to go down" much like a lot on here have anout Leicester. They've played well and lost. In the same period, Man Utd have played rubbish and won (not last two weeks but before that)... If the first happens you go down

As for saggy... In the game they won against us, their keeper made 5 worldy saves and their second goal was a worldy. 9 out of every 10 games the keeper makes 1 from the 5 saves and the shot from Zamora (who's ****e) goes into row z! The team lose 4-1 and its standard! (Not saying we played well against QPR but that's definitely the case)

Fwiw I don't think we are the worst in the league overall as the league doesn't lie. I do believe we are the worst this year!
