But nobody is claiming McGregor is anything other than a below average top flight keeper. HE COST US £1.5M!!! That's less than Harry Maguire who was signed for our development squad.
See the additional link I put on my edited post. I'm not anti-Mcgregor, someone asked for stats of how he compared to other Premier League keepers and I provided them
I wonder how many Chelsea fans were complaining about Courtois after his mistake on Sunday! McGregor has made lots of good saves this season and not too many mistakes.
Some people can only remember the mistakes. All the good saves must have been flukes according to some. :/
This might be off topic slightly.....but given his current form, how the hell isnt Alex Bruce in the Northern Ireland squad??
Good point but it's good for us that he isnt. The way he flies into tackles we want him to have this 2 week break.
NI defenders in squad....A Hughes (Brighton), C Baird (West Bromwich Albion), G McAuley (West Bromwich Albion), J Evans (Manchester United), C Cathcart (Watford), D Lafferty(Burnley) C McLaughlin (Fleetwood Town), L McCullough (Doncaster Rovers), P McNair (Manchester United), L Hodson (MK Dons)
because his dad isn't the manager for a start - other people don't see his performances through the same blinkered/ rose coloured spectacled eyes that some people do - just looking at Chelsea, he was totally at fault for his stupid challenge for the first goal, he was complicit in the second and he failed to cut out the cross for the third - maybe the manager of NI saw this and thought no bloody chance or maybe he's seen other performances and asked what does he really do - he cant pass, he's not very good in the air, he gets drawn out of position too easily, he hoofs it, but he's a brave tackler - can't understand why people choose to assassinate McGregor for a couple of mistakes and yet choose to put Bruce on a pedestal
Oh for **** sake Charon give it a rest. Everybody knows how good he has been this season and it's got nothing to do with his Dad. You really are an irritant.
As well as the back 3 have been playing, we've not won in 4 games, and conceded 3 in our last outing (albeit against Chelsea) i'm sure that Davies will be knocking on Brucie's door looking to get back in the team. Let's not forget he was our best player last year, and if this spell on the sidelines could help him rediscover that form i'd certainly want him in the team ahead of Bruce or Mcshane - nothing against either of them, but on top form he is a better player, the question is will he rediscover that form??
Dawson has been playing well, especially in the air, but Chelsea know how to beat any team in this league. It's easy enough to say that Dawson should close players down but not so easy to do without causing other problems.
I was rather surprised to see that there is actually quite a lot of criticism of Courtois - not far behind the Ivanovic/Cahill complaints. I suppose their "second choice" is still one of the World's top keepers so they do have amazing options (also I saw on the BBC website that Chelsea would consider offers of £10 million, as he's still relatively young I think he'll be a bargain for Arsenal.)
From where I'm sitting, McGregor does a job, but he's one of the first who should be superseded whenever the funds allow it. Manone is on the bench at Sunderland for heavens' sake, and he's better than McGregor.
