Passenger plane gone down in the Alps with 142 on board.

An Airbus A320 airliner has crashed in the French Alps between Barcelonnette and Digne, French aviation officials and police have said.

The jet belongs to the German low-cost airline Germanwings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa.

The plane was reported to be carrying 142 passengers and six crew members.

Both Airbus and Germanwings have said they aware of the reports but cannot yet confirm them.

more sad aircraft news -I have often used Germanwings in the past, part of the Lufthansa company always had good and efficient flights with them - hope it wasn't terrorism that brought the aircraft down - the Airbus craft is generally known as a very safe passenger plane, no doubt all will be revealed in the news

news stated plane debris been spotted at 2000 m high in the Alps, so that will pose a difficult logistic rescue/ reconnaissance issues as the Alps are as high as 5000 m in parts and can be very remote

And apparently no"mayday" or other form of communication. That rate of descent is very gradual so could possibly have been problem with avionics not giving accurate readings or warnings to crew.

What's the purpose of that photograph TT? Is it real time? Or just for background detail?

I have to say that flying is one of my major fears...I do it out of necessity for going on holiday abroad, but I always knock a skin full of whisky down to calm the nerves..

Yesterday was a truly dreadful day.

My wife's niece died. Just 20. Just collapsed and died.

Her brother died 5 years ago.

Can't imagine losing 2 kids like that.
