Billy you might have been responsible for some of those stats but I bet you would not want to be put back in that position again, or for the next generation to go through the same.

But would you want the troubles to continue? or would you want to have a peaceful community?

you wouldnt say that if a member of your family had died in

thats not my choice it would be the gangsters who say they represent the Catholics when all they did was rob and extort money whilst armed, scum bags

And with thousands dead they could all say they wanted revenge until there was no one left. It had to end and as in all conflicts of this nature it is only those who create the violence who can end it.

Yes there were scum in both communities who used the troubles as cover for their criminal activities, there were also a lot of innocent people on both sides who would be dead now if brave men like Hulme had not brought the men of violence to the table.

It gives out a painful message I agree but to get peace you have to take some very difficult decision some of which in a normal sane world you would never take. But I think we can agree that back then Belfast was neither sane nor normal

It would have ended a lot quicker if politicians didnt tie our hands in dealing with them, why do you think so many local neighbourhood RUC officers were gunned down , because they knew who the filth were and they were **** scared in case they let on

If I was 18 again & the situation was the same I'd do exactly the same thing all over again.

Well said Washy...Of course I and many others I would imagine had deep reservations about murderers from both sides being let off the hook, but that's what it took to broker a peace deal and has most certainly proved to be the correct decision as the killings have virtually stopped.

We will have to agree to disagree on that one. The end result would have been to recruit more to the 'cause' and yet more violence and more deaths including a lot of the lads in the services

I don't think you and I have fallen out in the past and I don't intend to over this so I think I will as we will not agree on this subject probably better that I get back to talking football.

Worst thing we did was give the ****s political status.
We should have treat them the same as the Germans did with the Baader Meinhoff Gang.
Gun the ****s down & slaughter them.

As a member of the armed services yes no doubt you would and that is the right thing to do. But would you want to be in a position where you could be killed or that required you to kill someone. I would like to think that you never wanted to kill but did so in the line of duty.
