I'm guessing that this journo doesn't really like Sunderland very much.

Five years ago England beat Spain to win the Under 17 European Championships. The winning goal came from a striker who burst powerfully into the box, between two opponents, before firing home a sweet shot into the corner beyond the keeper. A cool finish on a big occasion.

A few months later, I saw him come on as a substitute in the Championship and display some clever touches and neat footwork. He stood out as one of the more technically gifted players on display in the second tier game.

Fast forward a few more months and that teenage striker - playing in the Championship - picked up the ball in his own half, ran towards the opposition goal, beat two defenders, wrong-footed the keeper and slotted into an empty net.

In the Championship, he impressed and looked like one of the most technically gifted players on the pitch

Two weeks after that he scored a hat-trick.

In the summer of 2011 he made what has proved to be a catastrophic career move. He signed for Sunderland

Ings, Bamford and Berahinho all wipe the floor with Wickham.

Bamford and Berahino withdrew so yeah, you'd expect him to get chosen.

Probably got something to do with him being a lad and a boozer I'd say.

    Really? He's in the dark??

Have the standards to play for the national squad fallen so low that he thinks he's done enough to merit a place?

<laugh> As I was typing that out I thought of the crap that has worn the England shirt which sort of torpedoes my point <doh>

He still doesn't deserve it though!

If you read the full article, it seems to me like he is in the dark because he has had no phone calls from anyone in the England setup. The media have taken this to have a go at SAFC, but I think he is aiming the criticism more at the fact that no one has even bothered to call him to explain the situation to him. I would expect anyone who is eligible to play for England (Under 21's if not the seniors), at least those in the premier league and championship, to receive feedback. "Hi Connor, we have chosen you to play in the squad this time around, we dont think you have scored enough goals and it would be great if you also worked on your positioning..."

If he was a regular in the U'21s and then he suddenly wasn't, then yes, a phone call explaining his exclusion would be appropriate.

But if there is a new manager involved (and I'm sure there is, havent checked though), he may not feel inclined to do so. That would be his call. New regime, new way of doing things.

A lot of these guys feel like they're owed things, an explanation for not playing, an explanation of why theyre played out of position, an explanation of why theres no birthday cake.... instead of just ****ing getting on with things and appreciating how fortunate they are!!

I dont have much patience with these guys at the minute.

Would anybody on here swap Hull's extra 2 points for their remaining fixtures?

I'd bet most Burnley and QPR fans wouldn't even swap with Hull.

Harry Redknapp's opinion is wanted about as much as a wet fart in a wedding dress, complete ****.
