If you're into horse racing then you are an unmitigated ****nut and should be shunned by normal people.

Also applies if you beel about horse racing being cruel.

Aye at present it's Crufts 1-1 Cheltenham. Can't see it ending in a draw.

Nope, just 1 dog which has been shown to have been poisoned in Belgium and not at Crufts.

I really don't get why Animal rights activists pick on horse racing, as horse racing is far from cruel in comparison to how other Animals are treated here in the UK and abroad.

Cows, Chickens, Sheep, Pigs and so on, are all in a much worse situation than horses. We do not need to eat any of these animals either, as people are naturally herbivores. We just choose to eat them because they taste good. So don't give me the rubbish that it is acceptable to eat them for food, but it isn't acceptable to race them as neither is a necessity. Vegans survive perfectly fine.

Animals are eaten for food, for the same reasons horses are raced, for the enjoyment of humans. So unless you are a full scale Vegan you have no grounds to get on your high horse against horse racing. And if you are a Vegan, horse racing should be somewhere near the bottom of your list of priorities.

So what's worse training and looking after a horse, and competing with the horse in races that they enjoy running in, with a very small risk of injury, or butchering thousands and thousands of other animals on a daily basis and eating them?

Race horses are generally treated very well, much better than your average pet horse. They are fed well, exercised regularly, have a comfy stable and are able to socialise with all the other horses training with them. An unhappy badly treated horse will not be successful as a race horse, you need to look after them to get the best out of them.

You'll also find that those who look after and train the horses are animal lovers, and look after the horses like they would do a pet. On the rare occasion that a horse is fatally injured, you'll often find that the trainer, groom and jockey are inconsolable. They love the horses just as much as any animal rights activist does.

I'm not completely in favour of everything that goes on in horse racing though. I don't think the Grand National is a race that is necessary. 4 and a half miles is far to long, and the fences are far to high to have 40 horses charging over them together. So I'd scrap that race as it puts horses at to much risk of injury. It isn't even a high class race, it is nothing more than a decent handicap, so it wouldn't be missed by the proper horse racing enthusiasts.

Those who would miss the race, are your once a year gamblers. They are the same people who get on there high horse about racing being cruel and dangerous, yet come out once a year to bet and support the most dangerous of all races.

I agree with pretty much all of that but interesting how you have changed your tune on the Grand National since the old 606 days. You used to be one of its main cheerleaders....!
