I would say that Gerrard was more a victim of Murphy's or Sod's law than karma.

I'd not play him again. He got away with his mouthing off when he announced his move and got away with mouthing off about henderson and sterling contracts and even got away with mouthing about balotelli pen.

Far be it for me to defend him, but I think he approached it like a traditional derby game. You wouldn't have blinked an eyelid seeing that against Everton. I think Gerrard (as captain) probably thought his team hadn't imposed themselves on the game (a game not only against your biggest rivals but also one of massive importance) and he was going to show the rest of your players this was needed.

 

He did that 5 seconds earlier with the brilliant 50/50 tackle on mata. That got the crowd going again and should have given everyone a kick they needed...

 

In the pub I thought Herrarrarrrrra coming in on Gerrard was more dirty but having watched it again it wasnt that bad

Gerrard proper ****ed our chance of a comeback there and I hope he feels as **** as me and our supporters, which Im sure he does

 

I wouldn't be surprised if he thought the way he went in would rile the United players and make them lose their discipline. Making them get hot headed and losing their control but ended up losing it himself.

 

Dunno... I personally think it was pure petulance at not starting, just feels he is the man and can't take not being and same for his jump to Galaxy when he could have gone to a psg or where ever

Or maybe he saw Herrera coming in with what he felt was a dangerous tackle which could potentially injure him and rob him of a possible last game at Wembley lifting the FA cup?

I can't believe people are accusing Gerrard of putting his own interests ahead of the team. If he did that then he'd have left for Chelsea, Real Madrid or someone years ago.

He went out to prove some point about not starting imo. Got lucky he didn't do nata as he was not in full control then Herrera comes in looking to avenge it and he stamps on him

LfC career over imo should not expect to start another game
