Imho the ball saved Fonte yesterday. The angle it came away at made it look like he played the ball. On close inspection of replays I thought it was a penalty, but that must have been almost impossible to see in real time. if there is doubt, can the ref give a penalty? I've seen Long punched in the head and a throw in awarded, so I'm guessing not!
If Fonte's challenge was a penalty because " there was contact" and "he was entitled to go to ground" then what the hell was the challenge on Long where he nearly had his head taken off in the box? Not surprised that MotD didn't bother showing that one
Saw the foul on Long on Match Choice...deliberate arm to face. The commentator started to mention it, then got distracted by something and never went back to it. However in the end we won 2-0, so onto next game.
Well actually I think when you win 2-0, that is the bet time to raise inconsistencies with referee decisions as there are no sour grapes. The ref was good yesterday, but it is those blatant, horrible things that annoy me when nothing happens just because it is in the area. If that had been on the half way line, it would have been a foul.
Strange game in many ways. On the one hand it felt extremely comfortable and we dominated throughout but on the other, Burnley made it physically very hard for us and they created some excellent chances. Which, of course, brings me on to Kelvin. If I were the sort of person who says, "I told you so", I would be saying it now. I won't though because it looks like he's going to get a few more games to 'prove' himself. It was funny to see the reaction of both manager's to his saves; Koeman was smiling to himself and actually seemed a bit surprised that Davis could actually play a bit, and Dyche was obviously expecting a goal every time they shot. I literally jumped out of my seat when he mad that second save, I liked the way that the crowd sang "Super Kelv"when he walked on, despite how most of them were probably feeling (!). It must have made him feel great. Everyone played fairly well I thought. I note that Bertrand has gone down yet another place in the pecking order as Rose has been called up to replace Shaw. Unbelievable really, he was terrific yesterday. Pelle again played well outside the box with some decent distribution but inside the box he is a disaster area. Everything he tries is mistimed or lacking in confidence. I don't know what the answer is. Schneiderlin was in control, Toby was superb and Steve Davis was probably Motm. Did anyone see the Long incident, it looked like he was once again the victim of GBH!? Just noticed a mention above. Should it have been a penalty?
Overall, the team that has been near the top of the table all season won. Saints had more skilful players and can cause anyone any trouble. Burnley discovered why we have the best defence in the league. However, Burnley are a good side...why haven't they performed better this season? They have been on a learning curve, but the PL is unforgiving.
SKD on Sky this morning said that the reception from the fans warmed him up when he went on the pitch and he was ready to play straightaway. One in the eye for fans in the past who think booing a keeper helps in some strange way.
If Pelle had buried his hat trick of chances and SKD not pulled off two worldies, they could have been correct, Lawro was right for once!
I listened to the Rugby on the way back from the game yesterday. During the match there was a tackle from Courtney Lawes which the French were not happy with and a scuffle commenced. The on-pitch ref referred it to the video ref to see if the tackle or the resultant fracas were worthy of punishment. The immediate reaction of commentator Michael Dawson was "Oh no, the video ref is going to see the tackle in slow motion and it's going to look a hundred times worse." This is the issue with the football analysis every week. They watch it in super-slow, they spot the contact and they go penalty. Players are constantly defended with the mantra "Entitled to go down" It's little wonder the penalty box has become the seedy underworld of football where players lie, cheat and steal to gain any advantage they can and if they get caught. Their sleazy defence attorneys Owen & Shearer will tell the world they are doing it for the greater good. To paraphrase Omar from The Wire "All in the game"
Lff, what do you mean by the "I told you so"? Kelvin being good enough? If so, that's a bit early and needs to be done after 20 games! 8 good ones would be good though. 100% agree on the Long incident. It really annoys me.
Had a right barney with some twat in the Northlands section who bitched and moaned at Graziano for the whole of the game. The final straw for me was when he yelled "you're useless Pelle, you had the whole goal to aim at" when Graziano hit the bar. Some people ...... I might have told him (in approximate terms) to keep his views to himself ...........
The fella behind me was brilliant. Every time he heard a boo towards Pelle he was turning looking to see who it was to have a go. He started looking towards the northam (we're kingsland) and then eventually heard someone a few rows from us. He was beside himself trying to stop the booing. I agreed with him but it became comical how much he was looking to shut someone up Pelle did well yesterday.
Just realized I put "Northlands" and not "Kingsland" - too early on a Sunday for me .... Still asleep! Good for your neighbour - these idiots (who were, no doubt, cheering Graziano at the start of the season) need to shut the .... up (which is what I told the twat)
Lol - love the way you use ... For one bad word then type "twat" lol Reminds me of when very recently I was watching a Liverpool game on the TV with my son and the wife in the room... Lallana dived and I shouted "Get up you horrible little Twat bleep".... I bleeped the wrong word!!! The wife wasn't happy
There is a poster on another site that got caught out. There was a series of derogatory messages about Pelle from several different sign ons, turned out it was the same poster using multiple sign ons. How sad is that?
