It seems for once Mike Ashley seems to be doing the right things. Hopefully he carries on with that and comes up with some more additions to your team. So far so good. Good luck <ok>

And to be honest looking around and about the teams in the top 10, i honestly dont see why you cant get top 6 as long as key players stay fit and your new players settle in well (which they should as they have plenty of experience between them).

Dont say that too loudly, he might hear.

But aye, we can all hope. Rather be optimistic about the future than pessimistic!

Was talking to someone about this at work today, with Charlie Adam signing, what formation do you think your lot will play? Got a lot of midfielders now but kind of have to play 2 up front to keep Suarez and Carroll happy?

That's seems to be the million dollar question at the moment. We seem to be getting overloaded in midfield, and until we find out the news on whether Meireles (one of our stand out players last season) goes and also Maxi and other dead wood, it's hard to tell what the lineup will be. Plus, there is an extremely high chance a left winger will join, Downing, or hopefully Mata! (there is a strong rumour going around that our last friendly of pre-season against Valencia is part of the deal, however obviously speculation at the moment).

Interestingly previous deals have included a pre-season friendly against teams, For example:

    Played Feyeneyord - Signed Kuyt
    Played Villareal - Signed Reina
Played Atheltico Madrid - Signed Torres
    Played Espanyol - Signed Riera

Anyway, to answer your question with current players only i would go with this -

    Maxi---Lucas/Adam---Gerrard----Kuyt/Meireles
    -------------Carroll----Suarez-----------------------

I don't think Henderson will get that many games next year, hopefully the year after. The Lucas/Adam would vary depending on opposition and tactics, similar to the Kuyt/Meireles right wing situation.

However, like i said this is hopefully going to change with the addition of one or maybe even two wingers. The good thing is that we haven't had so much variation within midfield for years. Being able to mix it up next season with good players could be vital to a good season.

Also, with regards to keeping them Carroll and Suarez happy, that wont matter. Kenny will do whatever is best for the club. The individual players will know that and hopefully be happy with that and respect it!

Would have imagined spending £20m on a player meant he would go straight into the first team, was thinking you may deploy Suarez in an attacking mid/left wing role an play a 4231 in something like:

    ----Henderson Meireles
    Gerrard ----Adam -Suarez
    --------Carroll

As well as you having Mata potentially signing... at least that should mean you arent after N'Zogbia too!

There was me thinking that Newcastle were getting a bit full in the midfield area..<laugh>

If Kenny does whats best for the club, and towards the end of last year the team looked worse with Carroll on the pitch (apparently, I didnt actually watch <ok>.) Would be a right shame if he was to play a bit part role.. <whistle>

The main policy of our owners is buy young and concentrate on the future. Henderson will feature but i believe it may be season of bleeding in for him.

The problem with your formation is that Lucas who was player of the season for us by a mile last season will not feature. See this is exactly the problem we face, too many players that may expect to start. Also, Kuyt has to be in with a shout, another stand out player. Kenny also plays with 3 centre backs from time to time, which will shake things up again.

Carroll didn't do much for us last season except the Man city game. To be fair he was coming back from injury, but i didn't see much to inspire me. Hopefully, a good pre-season and it should be fine.

Be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Lucas could possibly replace Henderson there then. There will probably be plenty of rotation, I'd imagine you to have decent cup runs so there are enough games to keep players happy enough. I think Kuyt is a bit like Tiote, only the fans who watch him week in week out appreciate him - never watched him enough to, but the general impression he gives is one whose a bit average at best.

3 centre backs would bugger up my 4231 formation, so hopefully Kenny doesnt do that <laugh>

Keep Carroll off the bar stools and other mens women and he may just come good for your lot <ok>

I hope they don't land Mata! Valencia's been a favourite of mine for years, and after watching Villa end up at Barca, and Silva at Man City, I couldn't handle Juan going to another club I hate with a passion! If he goes anywhere in the EPL, I hope it's Arsenal to at least attempt to balance the powers in the league
