ThE GREAT DICTATOR stated we were expectedto pay premiership ticket prices yet we can,t afford to pay Lonegan the same wages as he was earning at PNE average crowd 10k what is going on ?We will lose out on all Simons sought after signings because BATES WILL NOT PAY THE GOING RATE THATS ALL WELL AND GOOD IF EVERYBODY TAKES THE SAME STANCE BUT THEY DON,T. ALL the players that left have had no problem signing for other clubs why/ because we are way down the league when it comes to paying players .It must be very frustrating for Grayson to find a player only to be told we can,t afford him we now have lost out on David Jones to Forest Bowyer to Ipswich Woodgate to Stoke Smith to WEST HAM and WESTWOOD to Sunderlands reserves but don,t worry the DICTATOR says its all in hand and there will be a rush of players clambering over one another to sign for him err LEEDS I FOR ONE DON,T BELIEVE HIM Montgomery will be on too much as well so we are left with freebies who nobody else fancies then the knives will be out saying GRAYSON OUT when it should be BATES OUT

Since this is the crux of your post, I'd like to see some evidence.

Worth judging after it actually happens?

Because they wanted more than they were worth, had come as far as they could with us and needed a move elsewhere because they weren't going to get us promoted.

The only one of those we know we've lost out on is Westwood. And he had to move to Sunderland because otherwise he couldn't get into the Ireland squad, even with first team football in a promotion-chasing team. He made noises about Woodgate, Bowyer and Smith to sound out the views of the supporters, but we have no idea whether we actually made a move for them. We might have thought they weren't right for Leeds, I certainly don't think they're the sort of characters I want at Elland Road.

We spent about £800k last window, the 'we only go for freebies thing' is a myth. I'd like to see more spent (because otherwise promotion will be nigh-on impossible) but I'm really not prejudiced one way or the other as to whether we'll deliver on that. Give 'em a chance and let's get angry once we actually make poor decisions rather than deciding beforehand that it's definitely bound to happen.

It is funny how Bates and Grayson say we must all remain patient and that they are aiming high and looking to bring in four players of quality and it is taking so long to get these four yet on the final day of the transfer window a deal can be agreed, medical passed and signatures signed in the space of a few short hours.

Looking at the Bowyer situation/rumour that we are nearly £10k a week short in wages compared to what Ipswich can pay him I am pretty sure the truth is that we have offers out there that are stupidly low and Bates in his dream world believes one of them (actually 4) will sign for the peanuts and bag of crisps on offer.

Collins was more like £250k according to newspaper reports. So £800k in total.

Gone are the days when we could slug it out with other clubs for players we dont want to go down the road we did with Ridsdale but we should be able to compete with some clubs. But as long as Bates is in charge we have no chance.

    You've changed your name, Donald.

I thought you might have gone for Donald Brooks. ;)

You're always telling me how Grayson has had nothing to spend, now you're falling over yourself trying to talk up the money he's had.

I'm somewhere between the two and have always maintained that. I don't think Grayson has had enough to spend on transfers if he's expected to chase promotion, but he's had more than the people on the other extreme give Bates credit for - those who say we only get freebies and loanees and spend nothing. We do spend something, it's just that the something doesn't match our Premier League ambitions and our Premier League level expenditure as fans. Realistically, I don't think we'll get promoted without spending at least £2m in fees and a significant amount on wages, and ultimately the buck stops with Bates as far as finances are concerned.

would you sack Dalglish for spending £35m on Carroll whose worth £10mTorres worth 50m not likely and we did sell Collins for what we paid for him so the net spend was £550k

"and we still had the 2nd highest wage bill last season... "

Evidence???? Last accounts to be made public were representative of us in L1, therefore it is mere hearsay to suggest that we were the second highest payers in the division last year.

Bates needs to start giving the fans what they deserve, we get bigger gates than any other club in the division, so at the very least we should be on a par with our competition in the wages we can offer.

Regardless of what was spent on him, Carroll is a good player.

Collins is one of the worst players I've ever seen, and I believe he cost us promotion.
