Redknapp states that Modric is "unhappy" and "confused"

I don't really understand why Harry would say this about Modric being unhappy. He just seems to be stirring the pot and almost 'advertising' him. Especially with quotes like "I think there are three or four of the top five that want him." (Which reads to me as: "Let the bidding war begin!")

He does love speaking the the press. And he does hate thinking before he speaks.

 

I'm unhappy and confused too. Unhappy that we haven't got rid of keane, Bentley and co, and confused how we get Brad Friedel and Villa get Shay Given.

 

I agree with Chirpy. I also think that it's about time Mr. Redknapp was told, in no uncertain terms, to shut his trap. Unless, in the unlikely event, that he has something useful to add.
I also think that unless Modric can become "unconfused", and will willingly play for Spurs, then it's probably better to let him go.

To be honest, Harry has always had a big mouth. His comments about his wife Sandra being a better finisher than Darren Bent, is a classic example of when you should keep your mouth shut.

It doesn't really help the situation with Modric by spouting off about it, but to be fair to him, what can he do about it? People are bound ask questions and he's just trying to be honest.

 

No other manager is constantly spouting off to the media, its really p-----g me off. Levy has business acumen 2nd to none, but I'm beginning to think he has no common sense at all. With the NOTW pressing self destruct in disgrace, HR's column in its sister rag should go imo. I do not see it as a good advert for anyone connected with THFC to be on their payroll. I'd like Harry to make this decision himself, but can't see it. The other thing is that the media know when f.all else is going on, Harry's always good for a quote and don't leave him alone.

No manager should single out individual players like this. Maybe he's just getting ready for the big blow by saying that LM is leaving after all.

 

It's almost as if everytime he talks to the press it's as if he's talking to friends down the pub and it doesn't register that whatever is said is going to be analysed and spun by every media outlet.

 

I don't think he will leave this summer. Levy would lose too much cred after everything he's said. However, if we don't get in the reinforcements we need, and we're not there, or thereabouts, by Jan - then who knows?

 

On Harry leaving, the other variable in this is Capello's success in the remaining qualifiers , the first dodgy result and hint of the unthinkable non qualification (I don't fancy a 2 leg play-off either really) and the media could well push it through.

 

Letting Modric go would be an admission, not only that we are not good enough for top 4 next season, but that we lack the balls to make the challenge.

I'll support Spurs whatever, but I will go back to resigning myself to the fact that we can expect to be nothing more than a feeder club to "bigger" clubs, and to being thankful if we finish inside the top half each season.

If we want to send a message to Modric, his agent and every other player who thinks he can sign a 6 year contract and then a mere 6 months later demand to leave merely because a "bigger" club is offering him glory and double his pay, then I'd rather see Modric put in the reserves for two seasons.

Yes, yes, yes! I know it's not practical or feasible, but I need to say something to vent my anger.

I can't see any other outcome to this than Moddy leaving, Levy looking stupid, and Harry fielding the same team as he did last season (except for Moddy) and juggling injuries, whilst we slip back down to mid-table obscurity. The only thing that I fear I have to look forward to is watching the Gooners finish outside the top 4 in another trophyless season and Whinger getting the sack next May.

I am feeling quite despondent.

 

I understand your frustration, WHL. Unfortunately, the old adage of, "If you want loyalty, buy a dog" is particularly apt to football. I'm not saying it's right, just that that's the way things are.

From my own point of view, I had hoped that Levy could, by words, and deeds, convince Luka to stay of his own volition. Maybe he still can.

If that is not the case, then I think it is better to let him go. You can't hold a player hostage. The Goons have tried it, and it's not working

I was looking back at his quotes today as well, remembering how he said they would all stick together. Think it was 5 or 6 weeks later at end of May he starting talking about "i like it here but you never know whats going to happen"

 

I think his mouth is loose, running off his mouth to the press as usual but at a time when our chairman is having his last stand moment where he's trying to eradicate the notion that Tottenham is a feeder club to be plundered at the whim of perceived big clubs when we are big and should not be in a position to be treated in this way.
If he dares to hand in a transfer request eff him, dump him in the reserves till his contract runs out!
And yes we don't have reserves I wouldn't care less if he didn't play club football again till his contract ran down as this is about more than the money he is being paid.
We can afford it we don't have Woodgate any more. Buy a new playmaker as if he never existed and see who will want him after he doesn't play club football for 5 years!

I completely agree with your first point, though. Harry has completely underminded Levy with these comments by openly suggesting that Modric will leave when Levy has promosed the opposite.
I wouldn't be surprised if Levy will have a quiet word, if I'm honest.

 

The trouble for Levy is that Harry has conflicted and competing interests. On the one hand, he's the Spurs manager, and should keep his trap shut when asked about our impending transfer business this window, and on the other hand he's a journalist employed by a tabloid rag to come up with sensationalistic headlines.

If I was Levy, I'd tell Harry to make a choice as to which job he wants most, and dump the other.

 

"Well the boy was unappy weren't he so we ad to let him go didn't we?" That's what I'm expecting to hear from Arry.
