4 league goals so far this season by Welbeck in 18 league starts, put whatever spin you want to that, but that's simply not good enough, and yet we still make excuses for him and say he is very good, and then we wonder why we're not competing for the top prizes like the league and champions league.

And yet despite the criticism of him today Welbeck got a crucial assist. The players were knackered near the end and Newcastle nearly capitalized on that. He didn't have a great game, then again nobody did. Far more peeved at Cazorla's performance than Welbeck's.

That second half got difficult and the players looked tired. They were really losing focus at times in that second half and it's good we got through it to secure the 3 points.

It's been a busy time and with the international break to recuperate hopefully we will be ready to go for the run in.

I also noticed how sloppy in possession Coquelin was - his poor passing led to at least 5 of Newcastle's chances in the second half.

Can't actually believe we are 1 point off of second <laugh>

The way some people are carrying on here, you would have thought we lost the game. Newcastle away is not an easy game after a midweek away game in the Champions League.... I suspect the Monaco game would have taken a lot from the chaps, good thing we won the game in the 1st 45 mins!

In many ways we have a terrible fan base. Whenever we struggle or things are difficult a large chunk of our fans get overtly negative.

As a player you want support, confidence is a HUGE part of sport psychology and our fans don't help that.

Hear Hear! I really do not understand our fans, Welbeck/Merts seem to be the scapegoat this month.

Only managed to catch the game on the radio. Good result getting 3 points away from home. It sounded like we tired in the 2nd half so the international break is welcome this time around. Also this win puts us into our best league form so far this season, so I don't really see why anybody is whinging (although I know some people love to whinge )

His job is to score goals, you always clutch at straws, why can't you for once say yeah, as a striker 4 goals in 18 games isn't good, instead you say oh well he got an assist. Yeah ok whatever.

I'm not scapegoating Welbeck for anything, all I am saying is he has to score more goals, ****ing hell what is with what some of you? 4 goals in 18 games and I can't say that's not good enough for a striker and he needs to be finding the back of the net some more? Get real.

Anyone read that article yesterday about sport and happiness? The happier fans are those that have lower expectations....

And miserable ****s are people who find a way to bitch and moan after a tough gritty victory away victory (at the ground where Chelsea and Liverpool lost mind you) where fatigue clearly caught up to players in the 2nd half after a long and grueling run of fixtures despite maintaining a perfect March.

Or they're just people with higher expectations than you? There's nothing wrong with having lower expectations... But you seem to be replying aggressively as if you think that accusation is an insult. Those with lower expectations are happier.. Life is only really about being happy. I wish I had expectations as low as they come really.

Just checked the table. Looks like Arsenal have been quietly flying under the radar.. if Chelsea choke a little bit more (which is entirely possible because they are the best at doing so), who knows what might happen.

Happy with the 3 points and the 1st half performance. Also a tough game to introduce Gabriel but felt he held his own.
At this stage of the season where fatigue and injuries are kicking in, it's more about grinding out the result which we are doing.

Pah .. you can stick your fluffy jibe up your unhappy jacksie :)

I don't have low expectations of Arsenal, but I do recognise when we're playing well and so give the team credit when it's due <ok>

Surely you realise that your opinion of 'playing well' will be different to others based on... yup you guessed it... your expectation of how we should play. People with different expectations will have different opinions on how well we're playing. You seem to be hell-bent on having a go at anyone on here who doesn't share your opinion and labelling them as 'whiners'. Admittedly i'm doing the same in the opposite direction and labelling others fluffies, but at least I can understand why I'm doing it and why others are like that.

    So again for clarity:
    1) I'm not saying people have low or high expectations. I'm saying some people have lowER or highER expectations than others.
    2) You're taking the lowER expectations point as a personal insult which you feel the need to argue against. It's not an insult... there's nothing wrong with it.
