Tobes and Bow are different generations of supporters and they both have valid points, older fans still see the FA Cup and to a lesser extent League Cup in their former status before CL and 4th took priority and Bow sees 4th as more important. But our guest knows we won't have any success in Europe or in the league next season so Bow had better change his view.
They're adding my opinion to your crystal ball watching, if you don't like it you know where the door is. Youve basically written next season off for us and expect no response.
He has a point though Our performances in Europe have been poor. An FA cup is a trophy and winning a tournament is great. Isn't this what football is about? To get a place in Europe and then priotise the premiership when there is a clash between the two was wrong. Rodgers gave the wrong signal this season against Madrid.
Your performances in Europe this season were abysmal. Hence why I have ruled you out of winning the CL next season. You are a million miles behind Chelsea, hence why you won't win the league next sesson.
Yep, but you seem to think only your opinion is valid, I agree our chances of winning anything other than a domestic cup are remote but never say never, but never say this year is our year. I agree with Tobes that a final at Wembley is fantastic especially if we win but i also agree with Bow that in the modern game a top 4 finish and a jaunt in the cash filled CL is a priority and a cup final at Wembley is a bonus.
Where did I say only my opinions are valid. I respect all opinions. In my opinion I believe you have a good chance of winning either of the cups but you miles off winning the other two. My responses are to the OP in that I would always go for trophies over places in the league. But I do take your point that you do need to finish top 4 for your club to compete with europes best in the long term. I am old school. We played football to win. Nowadays, it is all money, but, if you asked a player would he want to win cups or purely finish in the top 4, I would guess cups all the time.
I'm old school too, maybe you'd be correct if you asked British/Irish players with no chance of top4 with their clubs, but most foreign players at the regular top 4 finishers want CL football before they even consider signing.
Liverpool not winning the CL next season isn't exactly a bold and brave prediction is it We might not even be in it yet!
I take your point as regards the lower British/Irish lads. Players are for themselves though and will try to surely win every game they play. If that then gets them to Wembley then that's great. The flipside is the clubs owners who demand top 4. So managers have to manage/rotate their teams to accomodate the owners demands. Back in the day, the same 11 played every week. 1 goalie, 5 defenders, 5 attackers. Anyway, being a Hull supporter will probably mean I have a different view to most of you guys. We have never won anything meaningful (not that that bothers me as I support my local team) so it would be trophies for me everyday.
