Much of our health service is in private hands and it is regarded as one of the best in the world.

96% Conservative, 95% UKIP, I dread the fate of the country if we don't get another term, labour will drive us down into the gutter undoing all the hard work that it's taken to repair their last mess. The NHS is broken and needs fixing but throwing more money at a badly run organization is not the way to make an effective system (British Leyland a great example). The drive has to be to cut inefficiency, cut waste, do not reward laziness but provide an equitable and results/effort oriented society. None of this fits labour....

Irrelevant and hardly surprising - there's no difference between the two. I'm just thankful that I live up here...

It sure is - although not being able to watch Watford very often tends to turn it into Hell...

Alex Lousteau the treasurer of the Front National led by Marine Le Penn has been indicted for fraud. It seems that he is accused of getting public money in an illicit way for the use of the FN. After the controversy surrounding several candidates accused of racism, anti-Semitism and homophobia, matters have moved on to financial wrong doing. Seems rather the same as UKIP in the UK. Candidates being removed in an attempt to distance the party from them, but will it have an effect on the leaders of the two parties. Early indications show that the parties attract people that are hoping for some gain in one way or another, but neither the FN or UKIP leaders are able to deal with the number of eccentrics they both attract.

Likewise, living up here we have the best of both worlds free tuition, free prescriptions, less crowded, better air, if it weren't for the place being full of Scotts it would be paradise!!!

Not only UKIP, but now Nick Clegg - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pol...k-Clegg-in-new-party-fundraising-scandal.html

In my time here as a teacher I'd say I've taught somewhere in the vicinity of 1200 children - and I've only ever met one called Scott...

A misunderstanding of where you live possibly...
Whatever happened to the 'location' that used to appear under our usernames?

Any ex-pats living abroad, you may be able to vote providing you register in time!

    Dear David ,

I'm e-mailing you because around 3 million British people who live abroad have just regained their right to vote in this country. Election law has just changed so anyone who has been living abroad for less than 15 years is legally entitled to vote but, with only 2 months to go before the General Election on May 7th, virtually none of them know about it. And that's where you come in...

What I am asking is, if you can think of three Britons you know who live abroad, that you forward this message to them by email or on Facebook. All they have to do is click on www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and complete the form to order a postal vote online. It takes about 3 minutes, and all they need is their passport and National Insurance number for identification. The deadline is April 20th.

So please encourage them to register. It’s easy, and it matters. British people died within the last 100 years to win the vote, and they’re still being killed in other countries where people want to stop them getting it today. It’s fashionable to be cynical about democracy but, if you’ve paid your taxes, you’ve got a right to have a say in who spends them, and how. Or, as my grandma used to say, ‘if I don’t vote, I’ll get the politicians I deserve’!

    Yours Sincerely,

A good idea this Dave. Unfortunately it doesn't cover me as I left the UK in 1989 (refugee from Thatcherism !) and so have been away for very nearly 26 years. After 15 years away from the UK. if you happen to live in a country where naturalization is a prerequisite for voting rights then you can end up being totally disenfranchized - I took dual nationality for that reason. From all of the British I have known who live here (those stiill eligable to vote in Britain)only about 5% or less actually do.

Yesterday was the first round of elections for the cantons. Similar to County Councils. Not surprising that the socialists got a hammering, the National Front didn't do as well as forecast, the Greens almost disappeared from sight and the UMP did very well. The UMP had forged a coalition with the Democrats and it looks as if Sarko is well on his way back. Another two years before Hollande can be removed, but he is finding it difficult to get some of his policies through, which will not be helped by these results.
