Talk about career cul-de-sac. Hopefully he won't be too tainted by this association with the faux bumpkin (as Rookery Mike described him perfectly).....
I was actually thinking that as they've played about a quarter of the season against 10 men the Football League could tell them they have to play the last sixth of it without a manager to even things up a bit. But Holloway's a much better punishment!
Considering their fan-base, their facilities and their location, it is arguable that they have been massively underachieving for decades. They always seem to appoint the wrong manager and buy the wrong players. I know Newcastle haven't won anything in the last 45 years either, and have been in the second tier on a few occasions, but they don't seem to be fighting relegation every season that they're in the Premiership, unlike Sunderland. One wonders what they might have achieved if they had been able to appoint someone like Tony Pulis for example.
vic thats not faiir they have had some good years over the last 34 years .I cant remember the year of them coming to the vic and getting hammered
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31942735 What about having one player sent off for the first foul of a game and a penalty kick awarded for the second. He didnot complain about the referee for killing the game when his team were given the advantage.
Trouble is managers are as one eyed as the players and fans.. Quite frankly I don't bothering listening to the after match interviews as they are simply a time wasting exercise of excuse making and finger pointing.
That's true AK, although another referee in another game might be perfectly correct to take either or both of the above decisions if the offences merited it.
Damn right - I have never understood why the line seems to be that we should all cheeer for them as they represnt us in some way. I have never felt an affinity for any of those clubs (with the possible exception of Arsenal purely for family reasons) and never will. Sure I don't mind when some of them go through but equally, I care not a jot when they get knocked out and in certain cases I find myself dancing round the living room!
You'd think it would be a reality check, but no chance... they'll just spend countless more millions on people playing for the money rather than the club
All true, though whether the other major European leagues do much to preserve the true spirit of football, if such a thing exists, I'm not sure.
