I'd like to hear your views on the managerial situation. Your views in the past have been really interesting - some I've absolutely agreed with, others the opposite, but yours were frequently the first posts I'd look at. Do you even use this board anymore? I'd hope disillusionment hasn't totally set in after years of the same thing. Thing is there's always hope with Sunderland as the next managerial appoint might just be genius!

Evening gents. I struggle to access the new set up with my tablet so generally don't post it look much these days. It isn't as user friendly at all.

Rest assured I'm well and alive and incredibly busy with my new venture.

As for the lads, I'm pretty numb af the moment. Bruce, MoN, the mad fella (who wasn't wrong in his thinking just his delivery) and now Gus inside 5 seasons. It's pathetic.

I'm bitterly disappointed we find ourselves back to square one again and still struggling on the EPL. Hopefully Advocatt will be able to utilize his vast experience and save the day again but what we do in the summer is anyone's guess. I left the match after the 3rd goal on Saturday and was back home in Chester le Street by 4.20. Never in 40 odd seasons have I felt more defeated and deflated. I liked Gus but he had to go after that shambles. There was little option.

My hope is that in the summer we appoint Steve McClaren. A proven coach/manager at this level with Boro and in tbf European leagues. Forget the England debacle (and tbf brolly) and concentrate on his ability as a coach. His record is excellent and he would organise the club and team IMO very well. No more foreigners.

    Let's go English.

Good to hear from you Cest.

I agreed with everything you said until you got to Steve McClaren. I can't fathom out why so many on here want him in charge of us next season??
He was hated in Teesside during his time at Boro, even after their European adventures. He done great to get them so far in Europe, but they got there after Gibson pumped millions into the club. He had players all over the place, Downing at right back for example. They were the only fans in the country that were happy he got the England job.
After that he done well in his first stint in Holland for FC Twente, failed miserably at Wolfsburg (sacked), went to Forest failed miserably there(forced to resign) then went back to Twente and spoiled all his success first time round by being forced to resign from their supporters for doing so badly. Hes now at Derby doing an OK job, but they are falling like a stone in water now at this important part of the season after beginning it so well, and. It's starting to look like another season in the Championship for them now.
I've purposely left out his time as England manager in this thread because we all know how that went.
    What's excellent about that?

From a point of view that has had McClaren at their club, I will say this:

He's not a fantastic manager, I don't think even he thinks he's a great manager. What he is, is probably the best English coach around and one of the top coaches in the world.

With that in mind he needs players on his side to succeed as a manager, with real leaders on the pitch.

I don't think he can necessarily assemble a winning squad, but he will get the very best out of what he has to work with IF it's not a squad of egotistical arseholes like the England squad.

Personally I think Allardyce is a better fit for your requirements at this moment in time.

Good to hear you're alive and kicking. I really don't know what to make of McClaren these days but the Echo reckons Paul Clement is the long term target. Another gamble then. Let's just hope Dick does the biz in the meantime.

We need a coach not a manager mate. Big Sam will want control of transfers, it's got falling out with Congerton written all over it. Congerton is the man entrusted to build the squad, we needs someone to get the best out of him so with what you've said their you've put me further in the McClaren camp. ;)

Hi lads. The reason I favour McClaren over another gamble is that. We've had our fair share of failed gambles. McClaren or tbf Big Sam for that matter isn't as much if s gamble.

McClaren failed at Wolfsburg and Forest due to both clubs being torn apart from within during his times there.

His tenures at Boro and FC Twente are good enough for me and the fact he's a coach not a manager is even better. Congleton and this new management structure would suit that and stop the conflicts we've seen with MoN, PDC and Poyet.
