Alice Cooper is perhaps the most underrated songwriter that I can think of.

The lyrics for "Generation Landslide" and "Caught in a dream" being prime examples.

When I was 12 years old, he and the band were at their peak and simply the best band in the world at the time. They tend to be forgotten now but not by people with taste. Like me and you.

Alice Cooper was also influenced by Jim Morrison/Doors. Desperado was written by Alice in tribute to Jim..

    those who Alice influenced,

    way too many to mention............................

Slash said he's never been in a band that's not been influenced by Alice.

It's a pity Alice's music is not very good nowadays, his first 3 solo albums were great then.........not so much. I can't recall the last one I bought, but I still listen to the classic albums.

I like Alice Coopers early 70s stuff - Killer etc.

I've been listening to the third and last MC5 album (High Time) a lot recently - it's fecking brilliant.

MC5, Stooges, Alice Cooper - all from Detroit. Which has to be at the very least one of the greatest musical cities (Motown, those guys mentioned above, Bill Haley, Parliament/Funkadelic, Electro/Techno, whilst more recently there's been White Stripes/Brendon Benson/Raconteurs, and of course Eminem <whistle>)

go get "Along came a spider" (2010 ). Vengeance is mine ( with Slash on lead guitar ) and killed by love are a throw back to the old school Alice. great album.

also check you tube for Alice at the 100 club a week ago, a certain "Johnny D" from Kentucky played guitar with Alices band.

    very cool.

    enjoy!

Alice is still writing quality songs, and has a very wide and varied following. Johnny D being one such fan!

during the early 80s Alice went seriously off the rails, he nearly died, but he got himself together and became an inspiration to many famous film/rock stars.

    a very cool guy indeed!

It was worth watching just to hear Alice talk about Detroit and the bands you mentioned.

    Damn, i missed that!

seen Alice many times from 1986 to 2000, never a bad show.

i loved the joke he made about Britney and Lindsay a few years back. " me and Ozzy are out and about, yet these two are in jail".

    too cool.

    I don't how you can say they're under-rated.

As for The Who being over-rated. I'll find you and when I do <grr>

i dont think Motorhead, Killing Joke or Alice Cooper get the credit they deserve.

all were/are pioneers in their respective fields.

people talk about speed/thrash metal, you know, Metallica, Megadeth etc, etc. Where did that come from?

people talk about industrial, NIN,Ministry, Rammstein, who started that?

dont even get me started on Alice! take your pick, anything from Bowie to GWAR and everything in between.

as for the who, if ever there was a talentless front man, well Roger whatshisname was it.

awful, awful band ( and yes, i know Alice, for reasons best known to himself, covered one of their so called songs)

    no ones perfect!

Judging by the response to my thread earlier I would say Black Country Communion are criminally underrated.
