    ...... thanks to Pardew.

Despite him being quite dislikeable he did manage to get the best out of some of the squad.
John Carver is struggling with players like Coloccini, Taylor, Williamson, Colback, etc.

That's a shame as it would be wonderful if Ashley appointed him on a full time basis.
I think he's mad enough to do it, even though it would tip some Mags over the edge, but he needs some wins.

So I had a look at Newcastle's next few games in the hope that they'd have enough easy fixtures for Carver to stake his claim, doesn't look good tbh.

    Newcastle v Arsenal
    Sunderland v Newcastle
    Liverpool v Newcastle
    Newcastle
    v Tottenham
    Newcastle v Swansea

Now that they may have a scratch defence and no serious goal threat it's looking like a sad limp over the line.
Ashley knew the defensive cover was poor but no one was bought and some actually released.
The same goes for the attack where Ameobi & Riviére look well short of PL standard.

Eve though they only have themselves to blame it's a very poor looking team they'll have for the rest of the season.
That's a shame as we could do with them winning at Leicester & QPR but I'm not even sure they can do that.

It shows how bad things are when the only consolation both sets of supporters have is how shyte the other club is

Pardew an awful character but a very good manager imo, and I said this before he left, those 5 wins in a row were priceless. but dont take anyone lightly in this league, more highs and lows is all we can be sure of, lets hope its more of the former for us and DAV. and he earns his bonus.

Only Sunderland & Leicester have looked worse than Newcastle recently tbh.

Carver is now probably the worst manager in the PL.

I really don't give a **** about the Nags Head.
They could get into UEFA league or end up in the conference - wouldn't bother me either way one jot.
That said, I have got some good Nag mates who are sound lads.

We are a shocking side and have an even worse 'manager.'

Ashley will appoint the prick full-time just because he can and Carver is cheap.

After all the shyte he's piled on the supporters it wouldn't totally surprise me.

But it would be massive risk, who could Newcastle sign if Carver is head coach?

I think he'll ditch Carver even though he's a 'yes man' and now just seems to be hoping he's kept on as 'staff'.

It is strange how quiet things have gone about a new man though.

I have thought for years that Ashley is getting the fans back for the way he was treated after Keegan walked. He's well known for being vindictive and holding a grudge. He's saying to the fans 'this is my club, I'll run it how I want and there's nothing you can do about it'.

It's a massive risk appointing Carver permanently, but Ashley likes a gamble. He's trying to see how far he can go in terms of operating cheaply. He's probably hoping that Carver has a good end to the season, though in reality he's a man way out of his depth. I'd like to think Ashley has someone up his sleeve for the summer, but have come to expect the worst. If he does have someone lined up it'll no doubt be someone way off any radar. If not Carver, watch us end up with someone like Bruce Arena ['experienced international coach'.] Whoever it is will either need to be devoid of ambition or just absolutely off their trolley.

Thing is Windy, our owners know a few things,
    1. We'll never ever win the league
    2. The gates may dwindle slightly but the slightest hope/cup run/signing brings people back in.
    3. The Sky money/merchandising revenue/gate receipts will come in regardless of league position.
Are we playing into their hands or supporting 'our' club ........ the eternal conundrum.

True. That's the problem though isn't it? Our respective owners know that even a glimmer of hope brings people back through the gates. A couple of league wins or a decent run in one of the cups is all it takes. The Sky money is the biggest problem nowadays. It effectively renders gate receipts as token. It will just increase further over time.

I'd love to see Sky just pull the plug one day. Then football may perhaps go back to being a game about winning trophies, or at least trying your best [even if we never come close to winning.] Probably a pipe dream though.

Even though I can't stand Carver, I'd like to see him tell Ashley to shove it. He won't though. It's his dream job.

Probably. I see Bob Moncur and a certain Steve Howey are doing that already. Carver will be another one on the list.

Teams like Spurs have shown you can spend £200m on your squad and still struggle for top 4.

Ashley will look at that and think "What's the point?".

He's happy with 10th every season, if they finish 6th-17th it's no big deal so long as he's not finishing below that.

Cutting the best players consistently and replacing them with gambles is his MO. It's inevitable that, that plan will backfire. It already did once and he had to splash £20m in the January sales to bail them out. If he's prepared to do that then great, chances are they'll stay in the league more often than not.

They've no (or not many) high earners either and probably all have relegation wage drop clauses, so he can probably afford it much more than last time, if the worst happens.

They have a scout who found a cracking player in Perez, but he's not this wonder scout they all think he is, he's just very good at finding players on contracts that are running short.

The only guarantee is that next year will be miserable for their fans and the season after, and the one after that, I'd just chuck it in, the club is a shell of what it was, it's got no identity, it's pointless and predictable.

Graham Carr is a shocking scout. He finds the occasional gem, but his remit is to find 'decent', young and soon to be out of contract players that have a re-sale value. His way of running the club will eventually backfire spectacularly. You just have to look at out squad at the minute. Expecting to survive another PL season relying on the likes of Williamson, Elliott, Obertan, Anita and Sammy Ameobi is just plain stupid. In all likelihood, our 'better' players [Perez, Sissoko, Krul and Janmaat] will be sold leaving us right up a creek without a paddle. I can't see Ashley spending money. To attract quality you have to pay big money and give out decent wages.

He may surprise us, but I doubt it. Next season is going to be painful to watch. Irrespective of who the new manager eventually is.
