Thanks SCB for posting that. One of my all time heroes. He will be sadly missed. Check out his solo albums if you get the chance. Wrote some great well known songs - Robert Palmers 'every kinda people ' for example. RIP Mr Big
R.I.P. - great bass-player. Saw Free at an all-nighter at Burton Constable (1970-1971?) He was also in Sharks, with Chris Spedding and they played a free concert in East Park (1973) The 'Hull Connection' was the singer - 'Snips' - who had been in Hull band Nothineverappens (along with John Bentley - Squeeze; Roy Neave - who became a producer at Fairview, in Willerby; and Keith Hale, who did a good bit of work with Toyah).
Saw him at Brid Spa 71ish with Toby, totally smashed, booed off stage. Didn't realise we were the same age. FREE were awesome.
I've just realised - when I saw Sharks in East Park, Andy Fraser had already left and been replaced by Busta Cherry Jones. Mea culpa
Some lad he was promoting . Andy played bass, Chris Spedding played guitar. They did some old & some new stuff, in a pub in the Peak
I was there too. Good gig with Snips and Chris Spedding. Sadly I never saw Free play - my all time favourite band. Seen Bad Co and Paul Rodgers solo with various musicians and with Queen at Sheffield
