BREAKING: We're pleased to announce that Lloyd Isgrove has signed a two-year contract extension with Southampton FC. #saintsfc please log in to view this image Slightly surprised by this, if I'm honest. Keeps being given chances, but doesn't quite manage to make a breakthrough. Always looked good when I've seen him though.
He's got arms like Popeye We believe in giving youngsters time, though he could be here some time if we are waiting for him to reach 6 ft That's a real 6 ft..not the OS version. A little bit of cynicism suggests that we don't want players to go on a free, do we?.
Another that may have been higher up the order if it hadn't been for untimely injuries. Scored a good goal last night and his defensive qualities have shown a marked improvement lately.
Watched him play for Wales U21s against England U21s and he was very good there, but it's still not senior level, of course. For me, Lloyd is around that level, for Saints, that Ben Reeves was at. You know he's a fine player, but you wonder where and when he's going to break into the team. Ben Reeves has gone off the boil at MK Dons in the past few months, but before that, and very recently he's been scintillating. But that's at League One level, and it makes me wonder whether Saints have just passed Lloyd by, in terms of anything he can contribute to the first team, just like they did with Ben. Still, it is up to Lloyd to get better and Saints to give him a chance when he does. That's the remit after all.
Good to give him a extended contract. It means if he doesn't make it we can at least get some cash for him. I hope he proves me wrong, but imo we have younger players that are better then him.
McCarthy has had one. Will Wood for me is one to look out for. He can play lb or lm and can actually pass and defend. He needs a extension.
Will be interesting to see how he gets on. Shame he isn't joining a better Championship Club to get involved in high pressure games at the top of the league
That's good. Sheffield Wed haven't been scoring so we can see if Isgrove starts creating for them. I like Stuart Grey; good servant and never should have been given top job at Saints.
This could explain another factor behind the new deal? http://redsloscf.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/southamptons-european-roster-issues.html According to it, if we qualify for European competition we only have 2 players over 21 who count as home grown with the club for the squad registration rules, Isgrove and Morgan.
Won't JWP come into that category or will he still be 20 at the qualifying date? Or do they mean not just past your 21st birthday but actually 22?
From my understanding if a player is 21 or younger at the date of the first registration date then they count as u21, so JWP will be in that category. Sure there was somebody quite recently who turned 22 like a day after the PL registration deadline but still counted as u21 for the season, can't remember who off the top of my head.
